Hello, I have S&W model 57-1 .41 mag I use for hunting and I'm looking to mount a scope on it however the frame is not drilled and tapped leaving scope mounting options limited without having to drill. I really don't want to drill and tap it so I was wondering if any knows of an alternative solution. B-Square use offer an option but they are no longer manufacturing. Any help out there would greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Years ago, I ordered that B-Square mount.
One look at it, no way would I ever put that on a magnum revolver.
Threw it away.
Drilling and tapping is the only most secure attachment method.

Ages ago, I purchased a no-drill mount that I believe was manufactured by Beuhler. I intended to put it on my Model 27 for IHMSA matches, but the side clamps impeded the rotation of the cylinder. I think that drilling and tapping the top strap is your best option.

My 57 still use iron sights for deer and hogs. Years ago I hade my 586 drilled and tapped it had the old two screw mounts and still happy. The gunsmith did not bother up the original blue.

If you have it drilled and tapped in the S&W three hole pattern the rear sight will cover the holes if you decide to remove the optics. Any no drill mount I have ever used or seen will damage the bluing and reduce the value more that three hidden holes.

A skilled machinist/gunsmith can drill blind holes that do not penetrate all the way through the top strap.
I had this done on a 28-2.
Agree the "new" 3-hole pattern is the only way to go.
Many more mounting options then the obsolete pattern(s).

My gunsmith charged only $20 per hole. He did not go through the top strap as was already mentioned, and yep, you put the sight back on no one would even know it was drilled and tapped.

I have a 70s vintage 57 that has a Leupold base on it...got it cheap because no one wanted a 57 with "holes" in it. When it came in I discovered that whoever the smith was who did the D&T had not punched through the topstrap. I took everything apart, cleaned and put it all back together with LocTite and it has never loosened up...

Bought a 1964 8 /3/8" 57 a few years ago that also was scoped...this one however had a very odd sideplate mount. The sideplate attached to the right side of the frame with two extended screws that fit into the crane screw and upper sideplate holes. I think there may have been a third attachment point on the top of the frame. Fortunately all the original parts were there and I restored it to open sights... Sold the scope and mount on GunBroker a few months later... No clue what the name of the base was... Didn't leave any marks or damage on the frame and seemed pretty solid...
