Since there is interest in this barrel length, I thought I would post this picture in a separate thread. This Model 57 was made in S&W's tool room for Colonel Cunningham, a person who had connections at S&W. It is the only one documented and was shipped in January 1968. The 1972 Guns and Ammo Annual has an article by John Lachuk on pistol predator hunting that shows his 5-inch Model 57 and indicates it was a special order. Its age is unknown.

I know it’s taboo to use the term “toy” when speaking of firearms but some of the pictures you post...I have to say I always hear that line from the 1989 Batman movie where the Joker asks aloud, “Where does he get those wonderful toys???”

Another one of your beautiful, unique, and rare S&W revolvers from your collection. Thanks for sharing this with us as we would never get to see one otherwise.

I'll have to say, that of all the truly exquisite revolvers that you post on this forum...if I could reach through my computer monitor and snatch just one....I think this would be the one. Awesome. Thanks for posting.

I am amazed at the quality and shear numbers of fantastic revolvers you share with us. I can't imagine the time and effort (not to mention the dollars) you have invested in aquiring these great pieces. That you choose to share your collection with us is equally remarkable. Thanks for making this Forum a more special place.

I'm absolutely speechless as usual. Doc44's collection should be deemed a national treasure!

This particular 57 model in this particular barrel length and in my favorite 41 Mag caliber is the epitome of revolver design perfection IMO.

An extraordinary handgun with outstanding photography that is second to none to capture it.

Handled a blued 57-0 w/ 5" barrel [SN = N32xxxx] today which appears authentic; i.e., the barrel seems unmolested. It wears SB "smoothies". Anyone have a blued 5"...and if so, was it a special order?

Apologies for reviving a dormant thread, but I'm tasked with appraising this jewel. Any help will be most appreciated.

Pics later when I have some more research in hand.

Hey. Hold it still while I comb my thinning hair. Just wonderful. Thank you for sharing.

In order to appraise the Model 57 you have to obtain a factory letter verifying it was shipped with a 5-inch barrel. Until you have a letter, everything is just speculation. However, if it is correct, it would only be the second Model 57 lettered as having a 5-inch barrel. I would value it at $10,000 or more.
