Model 57 Presentation Case

That's a very nice Model 57 and case. You didn't include your revolver's s/n in your Post so it's difficult to determine the date of manufacture. The Model 57 was introduced in 1964 and continued until around 1993. The early Model 57s were available with the mahogany presentation case (like other N-frames from 1960 into the early 1980s), but I believe only the early Model 57s came with the blue velour interior instead of the usual blue flock material. Your case appears to be an early clam shell, most likely with styrofoam inserts, and the velour was probably glued onto the styrofoam. I don't claim to be an authority on these cases, so hopefully Doc44, jcelect, or one of our other Forum gurus will chime in to correct me! And yes, the stocks are much later than your revolver...it should probably be wearing checkered Goncalo Alves oversize target stocks with diamond centers (Coke Bottle stocks). Enjoy!

In an original Velour case the cloth covering was not glued to the styrofaom! You should be able to lift the cloth from the bottom area of the grips, slightly! Contact cement will melt the styrofoam and any other wet type of glue will soak thru the cloth and show on the finished side. From the appearance of your case, I see no reason to remove the liners!

Thank you for the information gentlmen. I was wondering only for the purpose of storing the manual in the bottom like with the later cases.I am in the process of purchasing a set of cokes for it and I will be lettering this one as well.

Nice first year case. What is the serial number range of your gun?
