with a square butt in blue. It just so happens that I have two Model 28s and two .45 ACP snub (2") barrels from GPC. One of the barrels will have the ACP polished off and "Colt" stamped in place by Ford's re-finishing. Now to save my nickels and dimes so that David Clements can do his magic.
I finally shot my newly purchased S&W model 58 in 41mag w/4'' barrel in nickel. What an awesome revolver it is in this 41magmun caliber. Its my new CCW gun too. I've shot the 44mag's and carried them for most of my CCW life but the 41mag feels a tad different yet has equal power in some cases with certain loads. You could shoot the 41 specials out of it too.
Now i recently been eyeing a S&W N Frame w/6'' barrel in 44 special too. Its also in that awesome S&W nickel finish too. I figure with owning 3 ruger redhawks in 44mag i really don't need another 44mag right now but down the road as a collect i may change my mind. But i think the S&W in 44 special and the smaller charter arms bulldog in 44special would be a great pair to have to shoot up all my 44 special ammo. Bill
I purchased the S&W model 57 in 41mag too also in nickel with a 6 1/2'' barrel for $699 brand new and my dealer still has one left i may go for another one too. I love my 41's.
Who did the work Bruce? Did you have to add any height to the front sight? How does it print with heavier bullets?
That's a nice pistola. It's something I'm considering.
Thx.
It started life as a "S" prefix Model 58. Now has a Model 29 cylinder and a 4 inch 38/44 Heavy Duty barrel reamed to 44 cal.
It's a great shooter and my 9 yr old loves it with 200gr LRN 44 Special loads.[/QUOTE]
Yes the front sight had to be modified. I don't remember who did the work but I think it was Clements? Will check with the original seller. This gun has been around with the guys on here. According to SebagoSon I'm the only one who enjoys it and can shoot it to POA. It's my daily jeep carry gun. I want to do some more work on it when time permits. I want to Ed McGivern the front sight, and perhaps make it a pinto...lol... The action is slick and locks up like a watch. I'll get back with you once I find out who did the work.
Hey Bruce, I think it was Carl Sokol who did that conversion. He did a nice job with it... and yes you are the only owner to date that I know of going back at least four forum members that can get that beast to shoot well.
Here's my 58-44.
A locally converted 58 to .44 Magnum.
It seems to shoot to the sights with hotter .44 Special level loads.... above at 25 yards with 7.8 grns of Unique and a 242 Grn. Tennessee Valley Bullet's cast lead round nose flat point.
