I just picked up a Model 60-3 that does not have adjustable sights. Serial number BBU7XXX.
I'm getting all kinds of conflicting information about sights and age of it online.
Can anyone help with the year and clarification of the sight issue?

Thanks, JW.

Thanks Jeff!
That's the confusing part. When I do a search for the differences between the no dash and the -3, the first thing that comes up is the adjustable sight thing. And they almost always have a photo with the adjustable sights.

There were 2 and 3” fixed sight model 60-3s, including a run of DAO spurless hammer examples. This model was the direct replacement for the original model 60.

I am not aware of any factory Target sighted -3s. The 60-1 from 1985 was a 2” with adjustable sight.

Edit to add - the model 60 was made with several "dash numbers" at the same time, so the model 60 was still made along with the -1, the -3 at the time of the -4, etc.

Thank you! Mine is a 2" regular DA/SA but that answers my question as long as I know there were some that fit that description.
Any idea of year?

It looks to be from 1989. If you have the original box and end label we can tell you a pretty specific date.

Thanks but only have the gun. Came across it unexpectedly and grabbed it.
I think '89 is close enough. Thanks again!

I'm unsure why any site (even on the Internet) would suggest
there was a Smith & Wesson Model 60-3 with adjustable sights.
The creature did not exist as a factory offering.

The first Model 60-3 listed in the database appeared in 1988; I'm
quite sure Alan nailed the date yours likely shipped. The Model
60-3 also came as a Lady Smith with either a 2" or 3" barrel; and
the model ran through 1991 when the Model 60-7 replaced it.

As noted the Model 60-4 has a 3" Heavy Barrel and adjustable
sights. The Model 60-5 was supposedly a Lady Smith, but I've
never seen one, and the Model 60-6 was a New York Police
Department exclusive.
