There's a really nice one with a 2" barrel at a local gun shop for $1299. Is that the new norm or just overpriced?
Thanks!

It would have to be in the box with paperwork, an original copy of the constitution and factory engraved by Michelangelo.

I paid $599 for a very nice example recently and plenty buy it nows on GB from $550 to $900ish

I wouldn't....

Yeah, last night I saw a used S&W 66-6 (with box) for $1299 (marked down from $1599). Too rich for my blood! Even if I could afford it!

You should be able to buy a lightly used, early, pinned model for $700~900, depending on things like a matching box, number matching grips, and so on (mine had neither a box, nor original grips). Much less for the more recent models, but the floor seems to be about $500. That may change, but these were made in great quantity.

I have one I'd sell at a bargain, $1100 and I'll pay shipping. Just kidding - kind of.

I think people put this stuff out there at these ridiculous prices, hoping one of P. T. Barnum's suckers will fall for it. I saw a garden variety Remington 7600 today priced at $1395. It was in very good condition, but that is crazy money - unless some fool pays it.

I am not a J frame fan, but I know enough to say that is probably on the order of 600 overpriced, for say a 40 year old gun. But while still no doubt overpriced, you did not say if it had the box, and/or was a very early model. I am just wondering if there is something special about the gun that would make a dealer price the gun so much higher than the norm?

I bet the gun is nice, and is a consigned gun, and the seller wants 1K and the dealer wants 30%. That happens all the time.

The only model 60 that I see priced near $1299 is the Pro Shop version with a 3" slab barrel, special trigger, and Altamont grips. As a resident of California, it does my heart good to read some criticism of current handgun prices. I follow the prices asked for used j-frames on Calguns.net and Gunbuyer.com. I have come to conclusion that I will be best served by holding onto my money for the time being. However, I did recently purchase a 640 marked +P+. I paid a fair price and had the seller ship it to an FFL near a daughter in Ohio as a Christmas present. So, there are exceptions, but I find them way too infrequently.

Would a Ladysmith version be worth less than a standard version? I just got one last week and paid a good bit less than anyone is discussing here. I would have thought it'd be worth a little more, being more rare. Does the "LS" logo put off some manly men and lessen the market for it or did I just luck into a good deal? (I've always wanted one and truth be told would have gladly paid the same price for a standard version in similar condition.)

You must be talking about the one at Hyatt. It has a box, etc., if I remember right. But, no. That's not normal.

Picked this one up at CSA for $425 or so. Maybe a month ago. Of course, that's a low price for Charlotte area.

From my saddle I'd say it depends upon which Lady Smith you bought and whether it came with the appropriate "container" and goodies. Sometimes I'll watch bidders go higher, and other times they don't go as high as a plain vanilla Model 60.

Consider, too, that they belong in the next forum, age-wise.

No, it's not over priced. It's WAAAAAAYYYYY over priced. $550 - $700 in my neck of the woods. Dealer probably has too much in it or maybe it's on consignment.

This model 60 will sell for at least $1299.ser.#409818 (The one on top)

Do you happen to know if the early Model 60 had grips with stainless washers/inserts? (at that time, blued J-frames still had blued washers)
