Could someone please give me an approximate manufacture date for a Model 60 no dash ACA**** serial number?

Thank you!

Per the SCSW (Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson), third edition:
The Model 60 (no dash) was made 1965-1987 (corrected).
The Model 60-1 was made 1972. It was a 3" barrel square butt heavy barrel, limited production of 171 in serial # range R56962-R57239. The SCSW does not say if the 60-1 was made beyond the year 1972 (corrected).

Pinned barrels were eliminated in 1982.

Per the SCSW:
Jan. 1983 ABL4000
Oct. 1983 ADE6700

Thank you for the timely and detailed reply.

It is a gun I am looking at buying.

It is advertised as a Model 60, no pinned barrel, with the serial number as shown in the series of pictures attached.

Maybe the discrepancy makes it worth a million dollars!

Obviously there is a discrepancy.

Based upon your ACA serial number prefix your revolver should be a 60-1.

If your revolver was a model 60 no dash it should have a pinned barrel.

Actually the 60ND was produced up to '87. There are pinned and non-pinned 60ND's. The 60-1 was a 3" version of the 60 made in very limited numbers.

And here we have why collecting S&W's are interesting.
Obviously Model 60's are not my bailiwick.
Early this morning my two brain cells had not met up with each other. It's even questionable at this point.
Yes, per the SCSW the 60-1 was produced in 1972 as a limited production of 171 units in a 3" barrel with square butt and heavy barrel with serial # range of R56962 - R57239.

Yes, I stand corrected from my initial post and it looks like the 60 no dash was made from 1965 - 1987. I will correct my initial post as it lives on the internet forever (or at least a long time) so as to not confuse the next guy who might reference it.

So, to answer the original question, serial # ACA**** should date to 1983.

To make things even more confusing, S & W made two model 60-1s - the 1972 version referenced above, and the 1985 2" Target.

1969. It could have shipped later than that though, if it sat on the shelf for a while.

Model 60, No dash, Pinned Barrel

How about SN# R159454? Thanks so much for the information!
