My wife's small thumb struggles with pulling the hammer back on her model 60. This became ever more evident when she pulled the hammer back on the model 19...it is a Target hammer. She found the 19 pulled ALOT easier and didn't hurt her thumb.
The only difference is the width, the trigger pull between the two guns seems about equal. I am not having any real luck searching this outy on my own so I thought I would put out to you guys.

Yes there is. For an older model 60 the target hammer & trigger can be found on the model 60-4. The newer (mim) model 60 targets seem to have the narrow hammer & trigger. I'm not saying that any of these will fit your gun since you didn't mention the revison number and I wouldn't know anyway. But, there is a version of model 60 with target hammer & trigger.

Thanks Tyrod.

This gun is just 2.5 years old, 2009,IL, MIM.

It would be really cool if they made something at least .400 in width for the hammer and near that for the trigger.

.

The new target hammer on the newer mod 60's is only .240 same as it ever was.

I think the mechanics of the J frame (coil spring, less leverage) will mean it will be harder to cock than a K frame, no matter what type of hammer. The model 19 has a longer reach so I think that is not the issue. Can you just give her the model 19 to shoot? :)

Thanks for the input everyone.

Lol, that's is what she said! No kidding.

I may have to get a 2.5 inch Model 19 for her. My 4 inch has target grips, which are a bit too big for her smallish hands.

Yeah, now that I think about it more, as I type, this makes the most sense. Not only does it make sense in this respect but I have been wanting one of those anyway. For her I mean.

My wife hates my 642 - doesn't like my 60 Pro, either. I bought her a 3" 65 years ago - and sanded/fitted a rounded/fg goncalo alves Hogue monogrip to it. She loved the grip, hated the gun. Then she eyed my 2" 10-11 - bought new nearing ten years back - my first-ever .38. I had sold the 3" 65 - kept the grips... she remembered the grips. I miss my 2" 10. It's loaded - +P 158gr LHPSWC's - by her side of the bed. When she takes it to the range, she doesn't care what she shoots - those +P's - or my 125gr JHP plinkers - and she's an eagle eye with it.

All of my J-frames have the same <.25" hammer and smallish trigger - save one. My 1999 vintage 651-1 (.22 WMR) has a 5/16+" hammer and trigger - noticeably larger. But, so is the cocking effort and DA pull, especially compared with the easier cf cartridge designed 60 Pro. With a rimfire J-frame, not only do you have shorter moment arms to contend with, but you have the necessity of a harder rimfire primer hit, too.

The greatest discomfort in cocking a J-frame hammer - especially a new one - is in the sharp edges of the knurling - an emery board could ease that quickly - and at near zero cost.

Stainz,
That isn't a bad idea. I will give the abrasive a try as it really can't hurt and may be 'enough' to mitigate this one.
