Just got a model 63 for my daughter to shoot steel challenge with. It is a great little gun, but the Front / Rear sight sight combination is terrible. Who thought this was a good idea? The Front has a nice bright fiber optic dot, but the rear has a shallow square notch. It is actually kind of hard to hold an accurate sight picture because the dot is just kind of floating around.. Anyway, I would like to put some fiber optics on the rear but am not finding any available for the J Frame. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Call me old school, but I think the issue with these guns ( even more so the 317's with the fiber front and v notch rear) is the sight set is a horrible combination, and I myself would be better served by the traditional black post square notch S&W has been using for 75 years or so.

Fiber optic reader does not make sense to me, the whole point of fiber optics ( very debatable utility if you ask me) is to draw your attention to the front sight. Adding more bright dots to confuse and distract the shooter is not the answer.

I shoot steel challenge with a 2" model 34 with the standard traditional sights and do fine. Besides, steel challenge doesn't require much at all in the accuracy department.

My advice while it may look less than ideal, have the young lady shoot it as it is and see if it does the job for her.

I have to add that, at least for me, I really don't like fiber optic sights. Either give me ye olde iron sights or nothing. I've been shooting that way for a long time and only prefer a green dot on the front sight because for some reason red or orange just doesn't work for me.

Personally, I really like having green fiber optic in the rear and a red front. I find it very quick and works well on the Ruger Mark guns. I was hoping for something similar on the 63, if only I can find someone who makes the rear. Until then, we'll just have to work with what we got.
