Had one back in the day...should have kept it.

Let one get away a couple years ago for $500 in the same condition as this one...should have bought it.

Person wants $850 for this one. Says if it's been shot, it was very little. No signs of wear, and the factory box with all the good stuff.

If I wait I could probably do better? I know what their asking on GB, and it's a lot more, plus shipping and FFL fee's. This one is local. I should probably pass?

I guess I'm hoping someone will talk me out of it.

They are not getting any cheaper. Bought my no dash 63 bout 5 years ago for $675 no box. Don't regret it. Thought I paid too much at the time! Buy it. Hard to find piece.

If you really like the gun then by all means buy it, a matching box and docs just sweeten the deal. I never ever think about how I paid too much when it's in my hands on the way home. I do however frequently think about the ones I let go once I realize I'm not seeing anymore for a while.

Yeah, with a bunch of whining, I'd probably buy it too! The box, papers and tools would make the deal for me. I bought my 63 no dash back in the late 70s when they first came out and remember having to pay full price due to it being a new model. It really is a great .22 and I'm sure you will be happy you got it....if you decide to buy.

I bought one last year for $400 with the full knowledge it had sticky extraction issues. Boy, did it ever. Empties had to be hammered out with a mallet.

The previous owner had returned it to Smith for repair. They sent it back untouched with a note the chambers were oversized and no parts were available.

No ammo worked - not Shorts or Longs or Subsonics or Match ammo. All were welded into the chambers. I tried .22 Mags, and they wouldn't load.

I finally rented a .22 WMR chamber reamer. It works fine now as a .22 Magnum.

It may just be me, but every S&W .22 revolver I've had (2 Model 18s and two Model 17s, and this one) had terrible ejection issues. No more for me.

Good luck, but beware. $850 seems high.

It's only money!! Take 7 $100 bills with you and a $50 bill and see what happens. Good luck

Of all the guns I have, the last one I would sell is my model 63. It is the most versatile one I own.

If you like it buy it, I doubt you will regret the slightly high price. Nice gun!

Although I enjoyed mine, I didn't shoot it often. I ended up giving it to my daughter in law. She loves shooting it and has become a better shot as a result.

The cost of 63s keeps going up every year. If you buy it, three years or so down the road it will seem like a bargain.

I checked the 63's that has sold on GB in the past couple months.

$508
$594.75
$650
One with the box and tools for $750 had been listed 4 times without selling.

The 63 is for sure on my want list, but a really nice 2" 64 with a full hammer is on my need list.

Lowest he'll go is $800. Saw a mark on on cylinder I asked if it was dust in the pic or actually a mark. Waiting to hear back.

Buy it if you like it.
They ain't gettin any cheaper and they are getting harder to find.
Next year they will cost more and there will be fewer available.
Look at the previous posts. Not one of the members who posted said they regretted buying theirs or that they had any intention of parting with it.
I bought mine a little over a year ago, and it ain't going any where any time soon.

I paid $700 a few years back for my four-inch Mod. 63. It came with the original box and papers. I've never regretted having spent the money.

Get both if your pocketbook will allow! The 2" 64 is another one that is a little difficult to find. Bought mine new in 1976 for $145. The 64 will never be sold as I bought it as a rookie LEO for off duty. The 63 would be the last I would consider selling. Great teaching revolver. Never a problem with sticking cylinders.

The standard finishing reamer is the answer. My 63 as well as a Pre 18, a 34-1, a couple of K22's and a 617-6 all the same problem. All reamed and now all just fine.

Pass!

Paying at least $100 over value, if not $200+, for it makes no sense. For a gun you won't even use is just foolish.

One can't, reasonably, justify over-paying today based on what prices might be years in the future. No matter how many gun owners suggest it.

Many gun owners make poor financial advisors. ; )
