You just have to replace the hammer with a standard one. The DAO hammers had the single action notch ground off. Usually you can swap hammers with no problem, but once in a while you have to fit the double action sear, which again is no problem if you know how.

That's a great gun at a great price. I have one with a normal hammer and I can't remember ever having once shot it single action. They're natural DA shooters anyway.

I am all about my M64. It rides in my patrol unit as a backup. The deal J&G is offering on these 64's is killer. Even left in DAO configuration they are one of the best deals for a fighting handgun on the market today. I have shot mine single action just for grins, but when I take her to the range it is double action time....
Everyone outta have a 64

Leave it alone and learn how to shoot DA, after enough practice you'll find that your DA accuracy is about as good as SA accuracy. Real men shoot DA.

Great buy. REALLY great buy!! I'd probably find another hammer to restore SA capability, though as a defensive gun, it is fine as is.

I have a 2" and a 4" Model 64 that are both DAO. The 4" is from J&G and is becoming my favorite shooter. These are the ideal revolvers for learning how to shoot double action. Perfect balance and great triggers right out of the box. In the defensive handgun classes I help teach we require the students to only shoot double action.

My 4-inch M-64 is the best duty gun I've been issued in years, and as such I have a built-in excuse to shoot it a lot. The DA stroke is smooth and even from start to finish, and our standard practice drill is clay pigeons at 50 yards. We don't hit them every time, but it's not the gun's fault when we miss. They don't last long!

the S&W model 64 at J&G sales is a very good deal for a quality used stainless steel revolver. you don't need to "fix" anything, it's good to go just as it is.

this is an ideal handgun for defense. well balanced, smooth and accurate. practice shooting, using a single hand grip, with both the left and right hand-----DAO. this is what you will need to do when it is time to take care of business.

i purchased a S&W model 64-5 NY-1 from J&G sales in august and i am very pleased.

I had been eyeing those J&G DAO 64s for months, until I got one off GB a few weeks ago. It's an Austrian Customs Police reimport. It was dirty when I got it, but it was in superb condition. I've only had time to shoot it once so far, but I plan to shoot it this weekend, with various handloads to see what I like.

I expect it to be my standard range gun for the next little while.
