I've seen an older thread with a Model 65-3 that was converted from a 4" barrel square butt to a 3" with a round butt. I really liked the look of the finished product. Is this a reasonable modification? Any ideas on gunsmithing costs? My next question would be the performance of the gun after the barrel swap.

Performance, well, it'll be a little less muzzle velocity/energy with the shorter barrel, should still shoot to point of aim, and for those that like the RB guns, should be a little easier to get a handle on.

Costs vary, I was looking into something slightly similar for my m19-6. there are a fair amount of gunsmith shops that will do the work. Cost also depends on what's done about the front sight. I've seen costs for it for between 150 or so on up to 250 for the barrel work, and I wanna say 50 to 100 for the round butt conversion. It might be cheaper to find a 3" barrel and have a smith put that on and then round butt the gun.

Without question, the cheapest way is to swap for what you want.
You are talking spending $300 for a top quality job to add what? fifty bucks to the value?
Of course, bubba can probably do the job for 100 bucks, guaranteed to have a barrel 3" long with a ground-off butt.......might even have a front sight...

I am in agreement. Try to trade for a 3" or sell it and spend the extra $100 for one. Much cheaper in the scheme of things. Now if it was only so easy for my plans...

I appreciate the candor. There is too much difference in value versus cost to talk myself into this one. I think I'll obsess over something else that makes a smidge more sense.
