Could be the cylinder stop moving out of position during recoil. This could make the action lock up like it does during a short stroke of the trigger.
You might check to verify the cylinder stop is moving freely during dry firing.....and that the cylinder stop spring is in good working order.
I have also seen the center pin bind inside the assembly due to dirt and debris, or due to being peened severely at the muzzle end by contacting the front locking lug during recoil. This can be caused by a weak, damaged or cut center pin spring.
Many other possibilities concerning the cause of what you have described. so you may want to have the gun checked out by your local, trained gunsmith.
