Hello all- I realize there may already be a thread for this but the only one I found was posted back in 2010 and I'm sure there have been some new advancements in the world of ankle carry since then.

Annnnyways, I came into possession of my grandfathers S&W model 66. It has either a 2 or 2.5 inch barrel, I haven't measured yet. I was wondering if anyone here carries one on their ankle and has any holsters they would suggest for this firearm?

Thanks in advance !

If you like a tank strapped to your ankle I guess you've got one. That's NOT where that gun belongs.

Uncle Mike's might make an ankle holster that works for that gun and, just think, you'll be the only one in town doing that!

Seriously, I really don't think it's a good plan.

The point is valid and has been made; that is a lot of handgun to have hanging on a leg at the ankle. Of course if the OP is 6'6" or so the weight might not mean as much to him as it would to me. I wore a M 60 on my left leg in a Bianchi sheepskin lined holster for the better part of 6 years when on duty. At the end of the day it was a relief to take it off.

On the other hand, the OP's handgun is a pleasure to carry in a suitable waist holster mounted on a 1 1/2" or a 1 3/4" gun belt. It also carries very comfortable in a well made shoulder holster. .........

I just checked the Bianchi internet site and they do list an ankle holster specific for the M19/M66 with a 2.5" barrel. .So if you're man enough there is the holster for you. I will testify to the durability of their ankle holster as I am still on occasion using mine and it is over 25 years old. ..............

I carry a 19-4 snub every day and on occasion my 66-3 snub in a Lobo Enhanced Pancake on a Comtac gun belt, while this set up is very comfortable I can not see this size revolver in an ankle holster. My 642 gets fairly uncomfortable on my ankle after a few hours as it is......

I have ankle carried for over 20 years and have found that anything under a pound (442/Cobra) is good all day long. Also, both hide well under straight leg jeans....if you don't mind more than doubling that weight, you'll have to hit a thrift store for some serious bell bottoms with the 66.

Thank you everyone for your input. I realized once I went home yesterday evening and actually held it in place around my ankle that there's a reason it's difficult to find the ankle holsters for it. I certainly don't have the Rambo-like frame for this. I'm fairly new to carrying concealed and I think I'll stick with the ppk/s on my ankle and save the m 66 for iwb.

Fasten that 66 to your leg with surgical wrap / ace bandage and walk around a little to see what it feels like. Never been a fan of ankle carry because "when" you need your weapon, it is very far away... Carried on duty / undercover and on more than one occasion I was wishing for a more practical carry solution.
