Just saw an ad for a model 66 nickle. Can you actually nickle stainless? or is the owner confused by a bright stainless finish?

I spent about a year polishing my M60 back in the early 1970s. We had a new baby, and my wife worked 2nd shift. I just sat in my recliner and used automobile rubbing compound on the various parts while I watched TV. Couldn't leave without waking up the kid, so I sat and polished.

Yes, you can bring up a mirror finish if you want that.

After a while I really changed my tactics. I stopped at an auto body supply house and bought a sheet of 800 grit and another of 1200 grit. Even the surfaces that still showed a little grain or machine marks took a great polish. After a year or two of intermittent work, mine looked just like an early one with the factory mirror finish.

Now there is another possibility. That someone has a M19 with a nickel finish that was mis-marked as a M66.
