Good evening guys. I'm new to the forum & after quite a bit of searching I still need some input. I just came across a Model 66 no dash for sale. Gun looks good in pics, but haven't had hands on it yet. I researched this site for values so I have a ballpark but this gun has K.D.P. stamped on the left side of the frame below the cylinder. My question is does this negatively impact the value - if so how much? I'm a casual shooter, not a collector but have always heard the 66 is a sweet shooter. Researched the K.P.D. also but didn't find anything definitive. Thanks in advance for any help from the experts. Haven't figured out how to attache a pic yet.

Personally it wouldn't bother me on a nice example but it bothers some. If this is your first shot at a 66 make sure you give forcing cone a good look see especially at the bottom flat spot and the top. Is it a 4" barrel 66? If so does the revolver have a blackened rear sight and orange ramp front or the older all stainless sights? The stainless sighted no dashes are arguably the most sought after version of the 4" barrel 66. What's funny is the stainless combination sights are horrible. The 66 is the ultimate K frame in my opinion. Not that I'm biased.

Welcome to the forum, great choice for an S&W.

Oh one other thing, if your going to shoot magnums in it strictly 158 gr. There's all kinds of info on this sight as to why but it has to do with the reason I said look at the forcing clone closely before buying.

Thanks sheepdawg! I will definitely check out the forcing cone. I've read a lot about that also. Frequency of failure seems to be heavily debated, but no reason not to make sure. This gun has the black rear/orange front sights. Does appear to have the correct "football" clearance grips but no box, etc.

I previously owned a 2" mod 36 (sold to Dad when he got his CCDW) and now have a '75 vintage model 15-3 that I love. When I saw this 66 it really got me interested. Guys is asking $700 but we are still negotiating. Nice looking pair by the way!

Look kinda like this?

Heymatt, I finally got one pic to load, others just show as links. I can't get your image to zoom without blurring - does it have the same markings?

Doesn’t have the KPD but has the orange ramp and black sights. 66 no dash 1976.

Try this one. I stand corrected on the markings.

Heymatt - that's it other than the grips. The one I'm looking at are checkered, not smooth. Good looking gun.

LPD256 - Sorry, my mistake, it is K.D.P. Corrected the title. I live in KY but haven't seen this marking before. Searched the web & this site but could only find a few posts but nothing conclusive. Doesn't really bother me as I just plan to shoot it. Just didn't know if it would hurt the value should I ever have to resell it.

How about Kentucky Department of Prisons? Or Probation? Enjoy shooting it. They are great guns. Made to shoot.

Threw another offer at him last night trying to meet in the middle, LOL. Haven't heard anything back yet - hoping it isn't gone...
