Spotted,
Thanks for the reply. Actually, the gun is my wife's. She had been hounding me for years about getting her own handgun and was dead set on a semi-auto (having fired my 45 auto and loving it). But given her lack of experience with guns in general and her intent to have something she could carry for personal defense, I had tried unsuccessfully to steer her to a wheelgun. You know, less complicated, fewer jamming, clearing, charging issues -- especially in the stress of a defense situation.
A couple months ago, we went to the NRA gun show in Phoenix. The more she looked at the semi autos, the more she started warming to the idea of a revolver. She had fired my model 60 snubby and didn't like the recoil (actually I think it was just the sharp checkering on the little service style grips), so we were looking at ladysmith type j or k frames with 3-4 inch barrels. We wandered over to the performance center display and she instantly fell in love with the F-Comp. Ultra-smooth action, great balance, nice grip, etc.
We stayed at the show a couple more hours and she made me go back to the S&W display 3 more times to check the gun out (the word "fondle" comes to mind). When we left, she let me know that she wouldn't mind getting one for her birthday in October. I figured that being a perf. center piece I probably shouldn't wait that long, and ordered one from Bud's the next week.
Although I was a little put off at first by the price and a bad experience I had with another S&W and customer service, we both LOVE the gun. In fact, it may be the nicest revolver I've ever fired (the LOCK notwithstanding). I asked her yesterday if I could have it and basically got the "cold dead fingers" response.
