Model 67 no dash

Just picked up a model 67 no dash. Stainless rear sight, serial 5K49xxx, can anyone tell me some info on it. It came with hogue grips and I plan to purchase some magnas if anyone has some. Got the gun for $300 I think I did good or did I not.

You didn't do good, you did great! The Mod. 67 Combat Master Piece is a favorite on the forum.

They, like their Mod. 15 counterparts, are great shooters and very accurate. Magna or K frame target grips are a good choice. Shine it up and shoot it to your hearts content.

Likely a 1973 model according to the SCSW. The stainless sights make it an early production piece. The sights can be a problem in sunlight but a dab of flat black paint can fix that. Get rid of those ugly rubber things and check out the want to sell here, E-Bay, or gun broker for a nice pair of real wood magna grips.
For $300 I'd buy all the model 67's I could get!

I have two Model 67s. I bought the first, a no-dash like yours with the stainless sights for $300 with no stocks as the seller didn't have the originals. It had been polished and bore some scuffs and scrapes but was in good mechanical condition so I gave it to my gunsmith for reconditioning. It now looks like a new gun and although it wears a set of my nicely-figured checkered target stocks, I did obtain a set of the OE square-bottom magnas for it.

My plan was to give it to our daughter but I couldn't bear myself to part with it so I bought a Model 67-1 for her. Ironically, I paid what I should have paid for the no-dash gun, $500, but if I switch costs from gun to gun, I'm okay with that. It's out being cosmetically restored as well as it had some holster wear here and there.

As has been said already, they are great guns especially for a centerfire training revolver.

I purchased my no-dash 3K3xxxx in May of 73. It had been in the shop for a while, so 72 mfg most likely. And now (again! ) my standard caveat: Check the tiny rear sight top screw for tightness, also the cylinder latch lug as they loosen under shooting. A minor problem on these earlier stainless Smiths. Has happened to me 4X. These guns came with flat bottom edge Magnas, not the rounded edge Magna grips of the 10. Nice gun. Enjoy it. Good shooting.

I've been given to understand that square-bottom Magnas came on guns with four-inch and longer barrels while rounded-bottom ones came on guns with shorter barrels. That may not be gospel as I haven't checked my SCoSW for confirmation.

Hi Ed, I've handled dozens of 4" model 10s and all had the rounded bottom Magnas. I did once have a 4" pre-10 dating back to the late 40s with pencil bbl that did have square bottom grips.

Here is my model 67 no dash. Got it about 15 years ago or so. It had
pits and scratches so I had it bead blasted. Please don't hate me for
the rubber stocks. I happen to think black looks good on silver guns,
and it's hard to beat Craig Spegel designed Butler Creek Stocks from
Uncle Mike.

One was recently offered for sale about a 50 mile drive from me and it was dead mint conditon with original wood grips and it was $475. The guy selling it was someone I had sold a couple of guns to and I said I wanted it but he said there was another man coming in from 200 miles away to pick it up. He said if the man didn't want it I would definitely get it but that didn't happen and I was pretty disappointed.

I couldn't pry the 67 ND away from my wife, It lives a cushy life in her nightstand. I had to settle for a 5-screw Combat Masterpiece from 1954. Life sure is rough.

Sounds like I did just fine, I'm not a big guru on the S&W as I am others.

I'm not sure where you are getting these killer deals, but keep it up if you can. You'll never lose money buying mint condition K-frames for $300 - $400.

As you can tell by my user name, I'm kind of a fan of the 15/67's.
I think you got The Cadillac of Guns, and at a really good price!
I'm sure that grip makes the gun really nice to shoot, but I'm also a fan of the factory target grips.
Anyway, congrats on a great grab.

I actually found a set of factory grips for it as I like the factory grips better, and I must say I really love the gun now.
