I was just looking over the S&W Instruction Sheet/Diagram/Parts List that came with my Model 67 Stainless Combat Masterpiece I bought in 1973. On the Diagram, there is a separate Part Number for both the 4" barrel and a 2" barrel. Also, a separate Part Number for an ejector rod for 4" barrel and for a 2" barrel. I was wondering if anyone here knows if S&W ever actually produced a Model 67 with a 2" barrel.

I have never seen one or heard of one but it would be a nice gun to own.

Two possibilities:

1. The diagram is the Model 15 diagram from that instruction sheet.

2. They intended to build 2 inch Model 67s, but never did.

In John Henwoods book America's Right Arm The Smith and Wesson Military and Police Revolver (a must for Smith fans). He indicates a 67-4 in 3 inch as an uncatalogued version. I am a great fan of the 67 and have never seen or read about a 2 inch version. I do have a model 15 in the 2 inch barrel and a 2 inch 67 would be a great gun.

I have often thought of getting a second 67 and having the barrel cut to three inches, original front sight put back on and the grip round-butted. To me that would make a "perfect packing pistol".

Ironic thing is, there's a TON of 65LS (3") shrouded ejector rod barrels available and at not unreasonable cost. You'd have to run an after market front blade, unless the M-67 original could be re-used. I've always wondered if someone that really knew what they were doing, couldn't....?

I've got a 3" 64, the 67 is just something I've thought about doing, and not sure I'd really want to.

Brownell's,
64-3
"Barrel, 3", SS----------$130.46"
Pt # 940-076-990 (fac.# 216820000)
No need to "mow". Keep the intact 4" on the side!

In K frame "common parts",
"Barrel, 2", SS..........$70.00
Pt # 940-072-760 (fac. # 072760000)

Of course, you'd still have to mow of the original fixed sight height blade on both, to fit an appropriate height front blade. But you sure would have a conversation starter with either!

Of course you could always get a 2" 15 bbl., Metalife it (looks like SS w/Rockwell "C" of 71) and install it on a 67. I've got a 67 w/4" bbl. that I really like. But the short bbl. 67 w/adj. sights (AKA SS 15) is intriguing.

I imagine if S&W brought out a 67 with 2" it would be even more popular that the old 15 with 2" has become. I have a 15-4 in 2" from 1983. It does not have a pinned barrel, diamond grips, or any of that nice classic stuff from bygone days yet it has the smoothest "out of the box" action I have ever seen on a Smith and I have owned plenty of them. I used to regularly outshoot guys with 4" and 6" barrels on the combat course.

MP..why don't you call S&W and give them the part number and see what happens. If they did indeed make them, and it appears that no one ever heard of them, they might still have some in stock. I would be very interested to see what they say. Just and idea.
