I am looking for a D/A semi-automatic with a thumb safey and discovered the 910 while browsing the S&W web page. I would be buying it new.

I would appreciate any feedback on this pistol regarding reliability, recoil, accuracy, and any other comments that would be helpful to me, including suggestions for an alternative gun.

Thanks.

The 910 is an extremely reliable handgun. Recoil is mild, even with hot 9mm. I used mine to train new shooters, if that gives you any indication.

Mine is mostly retired after 17,000+ rounds through it. It looks worn out but still functions reliably.

Mine was an early blue version with forged hammer and trigger. Accuracy was acceptable with a 2.5" group at 15 yards being attained with ammo it liked and some practice. It is my personal observation that 910 accuracy varies from pistol to pistol. I've seen 910's that were practically new shoot shotgun patterns, and others that were tack drivers. Mine fell somewhere in between.

The only negative (if any) that I could say about the 910, would be the retail price of a new one. Originally concieved as a S&W "Value line" pistol with a lower price tag, the 910 was a good value. If I were going to pay more than $350, I would find a LNIB 5904. The 910 was based on the 5904 without the finishing, and with the addition of plastic parts.

For $350 or less, I would still consider the 910 a value, and personally prefer it to say an M&P pistol. Hope this helps. Regards 18DAI.
