Picked up a model 15-4 today on the side of the frame above the trigger are the letters OR. CO. CA. Can anyone tell me what it stands for?$300.00 out the door. Can wait to shoot it. I already own a 15-3 that shoots great. Thanks.

I asked the same question regarding the same markings on my 15-5. I was told Orange County California Sheriff.

In my case I felt a touch foolish as I lived in Orange County California at the time.

On mine the stamping is rather uneven.

Enjoy it.

Orange County CA Sheriffs' Dept. issued the Model 15 (along with some 19's and 66's) up until the early to mid 90's when they transitioned to the 5904 & 5906 (harbor patrol). Some had department markings.

Once these were discontinued, they were sold to deputies through the Sheriffs' Range store. I'm sure some of those have traveled across the country by now with retires and sales.

They also had some guns stolen from the Armory back in the 80's. Not sure if these included Model 15's or what became of the stolen guns?
