Has anyone shot this stuff. There was a good sale price at the store a couple of weeks ago that I missed. $8 for 50 in steel case and $9 for 50 in brass case. I had been looking for a repeat of the sale and thought I might get about 10 boxes, that was until today. I was at the range shooting my new M&P9c and talked to another shooter that I saw was shooting the Monarch 9mm. He told me that he had about 6 fail to fire in the box of 50 and that it was very dirty to shoot. Anyone else have any experience with Monarch ammo.

It's dirty.
It's a little more accurate than Blazer in most of my 9mms. Never had a FTF with it.
I buy it when I can.

I've shot the steel and the brass thru my Glock G17. Never had any problem. Always shoots pretty well. It can be a little dirty (what isn't). I'm running the brass thru the reloading process (some of it has been thru a couple of times). BTW, at dusk, the steel case would sometimes create a 1ft flame at the muzzle!

I've shot the brass in my glocks with no problem. Plus walmart just raised the price of the federal so may be buying more of this stuff.

I've shot monarch steel for over a year now. Good stuff, cleaner than WWB no question about it. I will use monarch before WWB. Walmart also has started selling the Tula line of ammo. I picked up couple of boxes of 115gr. 9mm steelcase today for $9.47. Looks like it has replaced the Federal champion 9mm Brass at that price point. They also had plenty of .380 ammo from Tula @ $14.24 50rd. box, WWB bulk pac @ $31 and change and Remington @ $17.50 50rd. box. The ammo case was stock full with everything, even 38sp. The dept. mgr. said that walmart will start selling guns again in most stores soon! Corp. has sent out a training video to get employees up to speed. Things seem back to normal for the moment. Now is the time to stock up little by little (got four boxes of Tula .380 steelcase also).

My Sigma 9 didn't like Monarch brass I picked up on sale at Academy. Only ammo it's had problems with.
If it wasn't for the Monarch, I'd be able to say my Sigma was 100% reliable, before and after the trigger work I did. So I regret shooting that stuff, robbed me of bragging rights...

I fired a box of it through my P6 yesterday without any problems.
The post above may have been the last time I shot. I went out today with the 229 and the last of the Monarch ammo. It shot fine, but it smells like an old wet log that has been smoldering for a day or two.

been using monarch - no problems - ANY ammo is dirty - if you want to cut down on cleaning after 100 rounds or so fire few Fedaral or other premium round - finish range session with a couple of premiums - works well for me

Does anyone know if the steel case one has steel in the bullet?
I just checked with a magnet and it sure acts like steel.

I put one of the bullets into my melting pot and the core melted out. The problem is that like BJ Norris said in his blog, Bi-Metallic will not hurt the range, the only easy way for a range to check is to stick a magnet to it. And if it does most ranges will not allow it to be shot there. Too bad because the stuff is dirt cheap practice ammo.

Not sure why you would say this. The last decade has been great for us (American gun enthusiasts). The AWB expired, many states introduced or improved concealed carry, and the only new Federal law allows carry in Naional Parks. Let's keep up the good work!

My local range used to allow steel cased ammo but banned them all when Walmart started to carry Tula and more people started to shoot them.
According to range, steel case ammo causes some kind of damage to the backstop.

Never heard of it. The last Monarch brand ammo I saw was made in Canada by CIL , same as Canuck and Dominion brands.
Monarch is the brand name produced only for Academy Sports, can't remember by who exactly. But I have put hundreds of round thru my pistols in both 9mm and 40 cal, without a hicup whatsoever. I always use the brass cases and never the steel. The steel cases have a coating on them to keep thsm from rusting, and i have found out that the coating will melt after it get hot from putting 100 or so through. It also makes it a little tougher to clean the barrel afterwards. I had to use a brush to get the gunk out. Switched to the brass case and no more cleaning problems. This is just my experiance with it, but for the price, you can't beat it.

I bought alot of the Monarch 115 grn 9mm on sale over the last 12 months to stock up my inventory. Have experienced numerous failure to fires in striker fired weapons (taurus and glock). Hammer fired (sig and ruger) have operated fine. It is very dirty. I will not buy anymore Monarch brand ammo.
