I shot my model 25–2 the other day.
No moon clips.
I just ejected the empty shells out with a pen.
It really doesn’t take much time at all, and although I have moon clips and the moon clip tools, I don’t think I’ll be using them as I think putting the cases in and extracting them from the moon clips will take far longer than just push the spent cases out from the front side of the cylinder with any kind of wooden or plastic rod.
I know that means that your extractor rod and is superfluous unless you are using 45 auto rim.
Any thoughts on this??

Thanks

Mine has a spare cylinder in 45 Colt. I have not used the 45 ACP cylinder for maybe 15 years. Back when I used it I used 6 place moon clips. They were just fine. I used a pencil to remove the empties from the clips.

Using the revolver for 45 Colt is better. No clips.

I have a couple of 45 colts.
Can I just drop a 45 colt cylinder into the 25-2?? Not sure if the measurements are exactly the same.
Thanks

My thoughts are it sounds like you've already made up your mind.

I on the other hand really like moon clips. I have them for my 22-4, 940, PC 986 and PC 686-6. Load a bunch at home and go shoot. I very rarely need to unload / reload at the range.

I can understand that. Loading up 15 sets of clips before you head out. That makes sense so you’re not wasting range time.

If I am just shooting up a box to try out a new load or just get some trigger time I often do the same thing you do, pencil or screwdriver to shove the empties out. Not real fast, but then again real fast isn't the object of the exercise. Mostly. I have four .45 ACP revolvers and one of them will not fire reliably without moon clips or .45AR brass. Too much headspace.

I see your point and if you stick to the same shells it is fine. I have done the same with my 986 but not all brands of ammo work so to simplify I just went back to the moons.

I must shoot real wimp loads (actually, I DO!) If I tip the open gun skyward, generally 4 out of the 5 (I'm a bullseye shooter so I only load 5 out of habit) will just fall out into my hand, I'll pluck the 5th one out with ZERO fingernail pressure.

You will need a M25-3 cylinder chambered in .45 Colt. The M25-5 cylinder is longer than the M25-2 and M25-3 cylinders.

I forgot to mention that either the frame lug will have to be altered to use both cylinders or a bevel will need to be put on the Colt cylinder. The Colt cylinder is slightly longer at the rear, due to the thinner .45 Colt rim.

I carried a M625 chambered in .45 ACP as a police duty sidearm. Mine was loaded with HydraShok ammo and I carried 4 extra full moon clips. I wanted to be able to unload and reload as fast as possible.

Time is the key factor......

If you are timed or under real world duress, moon clips make a LOT of sense. If you aren't shooting in those conditions, moon clips aren't necessary. The only reason I'd get a gun fitted for moon clips is to do timed drills involving reloads. Something that I don't do.

Rimz moonclips.. they are the poly ones Jimmyj mentioned above... only for range day, but they work with minimal finger pressure to put cartridges in and out.. if you can open a soda or beer, these are much easier.
