I have a new 929 in need of additional clips. Some are less expensive (Ranch) and some more expensive (stainless & nickel). Would like to hear comments from experienced clip users as to what you recommend.

Never had any problems with Ranch Products. They've been doing this a long time, and their service is great. There's probably nothing wrong with paying more than they charge, but I have no reason to believe that the others are better.

My experience has been with .45ACP in full and 1/3 moon sizes. I have purchased from them both decades ago and just a few years ago.

Try Revolver Supply company's clips. I consider them like TK Custom at a much lower price... YMMV.

Whatever you get, enjoy shooting!

Wilson & Ranch are similar

In the past 6 months, I purchased blued metal full moon clips for my .45 acp manufactured by Wilson's and Ranch. Both were similar, although the Ranch had slightly sharper edges on the non-pressed side. The Ranch were also far less expensive than Wilson's. I bought the Wilson's through Midway's and the Ranch through Brownell's. My 625-2 is very tight and I had to use a ceramic stone attached to an electric screwgun to bevel the edges of my moonclips and also take down any "raised edges" on the non-pressed side so that the cartridge sat a little lower to allow my cylinder to close.

If you don't care about fast reloads any of the moon clips will do. If getting the fastest reload is your goal go with Hearthco or TKCustom moons.
Revolver Supply Co now makes a .035 thick moon that holds the brass secure with no flopping. I use these for Steel Challenge Matches where I don't worry about reloading on the clock.

I've used Ranch ,, Revolver Supply,, & TK Custom moon clips in my 929.
The Ranch are reasonable priced, and hold Winchester brass OK. No tool needed to load the ammo into the clips.
Revolver Supply, chrome, cost a bit more and seem to hold winchester brass just a little bit tighter. But I've noticed the chrome is starting to peel on some of the edges. No tool needed to load.
TK are expensive IMO, but hold the brass Tight. Tight enough that I need to use a tool to load the clips.

I use a tube type screw driver to unload the clips.

( FYI ,, I've always used Ranch in my 625's. I've had no problems and I'm happy with them.
My 610 I used a a brand I got from Brownell's , don't remember the name.. Didn't care for the Ranch in the 610.)

Seems to me that the biggest difference is how they hold certain types of brass. Some don't hold WW well, but hold Federal well, that type of thing. I have TK and ranch I use in my 986 for steel shooting and PMC brass with no problem.

The answer to your question can be different depending on the usage. If you are competing where speed reloads are VERY important spend the money for Hearthco or TK Custom. For casual target shooting and plinking or steel shooting use inexpensive Ranch clips. Ranch clips sometimes have burrs due to inadequate tumbling. If you get clips with burrs you can fix the clips or call Ranch and send them back.

One thing should be said about "Wilson" moonclips. They are NOT made by Wilson but bought from a vendor and repackaged for a high price to the customer.

I gotta tell you guys I love my 625pc but the clips were annoying, I bought a bunch of .45 rimmed from Starlite, what a difference,if you reload, just do it.

Speed bees through Amazon.com. for 10 its $29.

I purchased two packs . They work good. Rounds go in with fingers.

The 3 factory supplied moonclips in that little ziplock marked "tk" ive never used...

I run ranch moonclips in my 929 with mixed brand and age brass. No problems at all but admittedly don't compete or run hundreds of rounds a week through them.

FWIW, I also use ranch clips for my 625 and 627 with similar results.

I use the nickel plated moon clips from Revolver supply for my 929. I also use the moon tool from BMT for loading and unloading them. Really slick process.

Speed reloads

TK Custom or Hearthco can produce EDM cut moonclips of a specific thickness which will hold the brass very snug. The rounds in the moonclip can't wobble and shake which enables the speed reload ammo to quickly drop in. The shooter is less likely to have to fumble and juggle the reload. This is not of major importance in steel or pin shooting where reloads aren't frequent. Speed reloads are necessary in USPSA, ICORE or IDPA competition.

Good to know as this will be an ICORE gun. Thank you.

I have a 625JM. For casual shooting at the range, I find myself using Rimz poly moon clips. I have metal clips and de-mooning tool. That works OK. I did purchase 20 clips that were too thick, and caused binding. They are in a catch all box. Would love to use auto rim, but I have so much ACP on hand to load. Bob
