[Rule3]

Was channel surfing and Andrew Zimmern was in Alaska. Just in time to reveal the buried stink heads. Salmon heads buried in a burlap bag at the high tide mark for who know how long so they are rotten and brine by saltwater. It is a Native Delicacy.

Eat the nose and cheek cartilage. YUM!!
Yes, rotted, stinking, gross fish heads. Even he wouldn't eat it, he did try.

I saw that along with the spoiled salmon eggs... although the smoked salmon egg paste (I think they called it Indian cheese) looked pretty good. As did all the other smoked dried fish.

I am an HVAC tech, and I answered a call today at a residence of an eastern European lady. She was preparing the evening meal, and was the most atrocious smell in the whole wide world. I'm thinking it was something like broiled roadkill marinated in garlic sauce. Folks from cultures other than our own sure eat some strange things.

I'm pretty open minded. I will try a lot of different foods that others might not. The key word here is "food". Rotten fish heads do not fall under the category of food in my book.

I'd take a big PASS on that. It wouldn't do me no good to eat that anyway because it'd come right back up even if I did get it down.

Back in the 60's I remember my grandfather talking about Siwash Caviar. As he told the story the local natives would gather the local sucker nicknamed squaw fish probably because it was the fish whose gathering was left to the women, although it could also be because of their mouth. The women would catch the suckers in rock wiers which are still seen today when the river level is especially low. The fish were caught during their spawning time and the roe was all collected in wicker baskets, the rest of the fish was cut and dried as was salmon. The eggs were then deposited into a hole in hillside and left until spring thaw when they were dug out during the spring Pow-wow and eaten with great relish. He had tried it and said you had to like fish, I felt the same way about the fish sauce they had in Vietnam...Nookmom, the locals wouldn't eat their rice without it and I found that it only took a drop or two to make the whole bowl of rice taste like fish.
