Mossberg Model 152

I have a local gun store that I have to visit regularly or they call my house to do a wellness check. So when I walked in yesterday they immediately called my attention to this rather scruffy looking .22 rifle that came from a local estate.

This Mossberg has the flip down stock fore-end and, sadly, had the original sights removed (looks like the front one was removed with a claw hammer) and a cheap scope installed. It has some interesting features and it came home with me. I got back enough change from $200 to buy a soft drink.

My first impulse is/was to check out the option of seeking the peep sight and blade front to "restore" this little rifle. It seems that parts are getting scarce and it apparently was made somewhere between 1948 and 1954?

Anyway, any stories or experiences anyone here might have had with the Mossberg 152 would increase my knowledge base considerably.

Sometimes, I take this one, screw a can on it, & go sit out back to play with the chipmunks.

It's a damn fine shooter. Picked up the peep sight on Ebay for about $40

You have an early model. The later models forearm was black plastic.
Does the barrel have a cover over the muzzle ?
The front sight should be similar to a M1 carbine.
If the magazine is original it is a rare one as most came with a 7 round magazine.
The original slings were cloth.

Mine does have the wooden forearm, but there is nothing over the muzzle. A quick search online looked like the front sight on an M1. The magazine I have is larger than a 7 rounder. The sling swivels are on the side of the stock, but my poor specimen had no sling with it.

I'm challenged by only having a cellphone for a camera. I'll see if I can get some decent shots tomorrow in daylight. Mine looks like the one Nedroe has, but without the stock sights.

When I was a kid my dad had a M152. I thought it was the coolest rifle in the house because it looked “military”. . It was amazingly accurate and it was the only .22 we had that was used for hunting only. It shot .22 LR only and those long rifle shells were too expensive for plinking. We had others that would shoot .22 short and those were the “fun” guns. My brother ended up with that gun, as he did most all of my dad’s guns.

Several years ago, I was at a gun show and saw a M152. I remember haggling to the point I got it for $117.50. Mine shoots every bit as well as my dad’s. Both have 7 shot magazines and wooden fold down forearms.
Funny to see this post. I hadn’t shot mine in several years, and just yesterday got it out and ran a couple magazines through it.

I thought my dad said he got his during WW2 but I could be wrong on that.
