Well I finally joined the crowd and I'm on the hunt for a gun to fit a holster!

I was visiting my son down in NC and we went to a gun show. Low and behold I run across a guy from Long Island who has the usual box of holsters. I saw a nice Jay Pee in the holster bin! I comment "Looks like the old NYPD style". He gave me a funny look and said you can't be from around here as a few people looked at it but no one matched it to New York's finest. Yep Western New York! So it was marked $10 and in great shape with just the smallest of marks (probably from the bin)
It looked brand new for the most part.

So now this $10 holster has me looking for a model 10 4" skinny barrel or a 64 NY-1 to go in it.

Funny side story I put in a M&P pre 10 snub and for the life of me could not pull the gun back out. There is a leather lip inside that blocks the back of the cylinder. I had to Google the holster and find out how to get the darn gun out!

I have a range belt that has that holster and several speedloader pouches and it fits my 19-3 perfect but not deep enough to hit that leather ridge inside. So that's why I'm on the hunt for a fixed sight 10 or 64.

My range has a section of steel plates and silhouettes and I get a kick out of the being the only guy using a revolver rig and clanging off targets. I even danced a tree one day where the targets clang from one side to another. I hit six, reloaded fast for me and hit the last two then shot at the gong way back and hit that four times. Younger guy with a Glock rig said,"nice shooting and love that holster!"

A number of years ago I took my daughter to the the Macys Parade. Saw a few seasoned Officers still wearing that style holster with revolvers. Brought a smile to my face….

Cool find. It may just be the angle of the image, but are you sure it fits a 4" K frame? It looks shorter than that.

Yep it will fit. The bottom is a little longer so a fixed sight gun can sit way down. I had both a 5" M&P my buddy had and 4" 19 in there no issues. They both fit but the 10 stopped by the rear sight and the 5" too long so not enough to engage the inner leather ridge.

Hmmm

So I got curious. I placed my 4" 19 along the outside of the holster and man it is close. The lower stitching is right there and the end of the barrel is at the very tip.

Has me wondering - could this be for a 3" revolver or maybe a smaller frame one like a colt?

Unfortunately around here old fix sight revolvers are few and far in between so will have to bring it to the next gun show and see.

3" ruger

Well I'll be damned - looks like it's a for a Ruger 3"
I did not know they made those - I just assumed it was for the old M&P

Nice eyes and catch on that MurphyDog!

The hunt is still on but now for a Ruger!

I have several NYPD holster. I bet a 4" fixed sight K frame fits perfectly.

Sorry to hear that. Gun leather addiction is very hard on the wallet... I bought this Qliver Ball thinking my 4 in.19 would fit...wrong. Found a Pre war M&P that fits perfectly. This is just one example...
