As action movies go, this is a lot better than many. Certainly better than most.

The plot involves a Marine recon sniper on leave in an Asian country, where his wife (played by Lara Cox) is the PR director for a fancy resort. Terrorists attack and seize hostages from the guests and take Lara, too. (Her name in the movie is Robin. She fakes a US accent well, but the actress is Aussie.)

Good action stuff, with better direction and cast than I'd feared. I bought it mainly because Lara was in it, and I've had a crush on her since she was on The Lost World TV series. She has third place in the cast, and is in a lot of the film. Ted DiBiase (never heard of him, but he handles the role well) plays her husband.

I liked him holding the Beretta 9mm on the DVD cover. In fact, I bought four DVDs's when I got this one, and three of them had M-92's on the covers!

Have any of you guys seen this? Worth a look. It was filmed in Thailand and the scenery is beautiful.

It isn't just a shoot-'em-up with one-dimensional characters.

Hi:
I recall a another movie "The Marine" from several years ago.
It was about a recently discharged Marine whos wife was kidnapped by a gang of really bad criminals and he was pursuing them in Louisanna?

I haven't seen it yet, but I think that is The Marine 1 now. Same producers.

Is it any good? Who played the wife? Is there much good gun footage?

WWE Movies.

Both "The Marine" (starring John Cena) and "The Marine 2" (starring Ted DiBiase, Jr.) were co-produced by the WWE and Vince McMahon.
I haven't seen them completely, but what I have seen of them seem to showcase wrestlers. Look at what happened to Dwayne (the Rock) Johnson, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Ken "Mr Kennedy" Anderson, and soon most likely Dave Bautista. Out of the group, it seems that only The Rock actually got a serious film career out of it.
I put these kind of movies in the "Grindhouse" category...and will usually wind up on the bargain self of the video store in short order.

I doubt that these will be great movie classics, but I had to pay $16 for a used DVD, and thought that it was a fairly good buy. But I'm a Lara Cox fan. :) I'm glad that her career is going fairly well.

She told an Australian interviewer that she enjoyed this more than any job that she's had since starring in, "Heartbreak High" about 12 years ago.

I'd never heard of Ted DiBiase, but I don't watch wrestling. He seemed competent for this role, but I suspect that his range is limited. (Lara is a very versatile actress.)

I looked up The Marine 1, and decided to pass on it. Doesn't look as good, and I'm not a fan of Kelly Carlson, the female lead. Otherwise, it just seems like a typical action movie.

Different indeed, acting seems to be a very lost art. I tend to watch old black and whites more than any thing new these days. I watched "The Marine" a few months back, hoping.....

I think you'd be much more pleased with The Marine 2.

But it is true that few stars today have the "presence" that Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, John Wayne, Audie Murphy, or Charlton Heston had. Of the lot, Sean Connery was good, and Harrison Ford. Now, they too, are old.

The guy who played Maj. Winters in, "Band of Brothers" was good in that role. So were some of the others. But he isn't a major star.

William Petersen was good in a few movies and in CSI. But he's retired now, too.

Some girls I know think that Johhnny Depp is terrific. To me, he seems brain-dead in interviews.

I think the guy who plays the head profiler in the FBI series, "Criminal Minds" is better than most male actors today.

Actresses are often still quite good. Lara Cox has done very well in every role that I've seen her in, and I looked up Aussie series on YouTube to see her. I was surprised to see her in an action movie.

Her former co-star on Lost World, Rachel Blakely, is good, and has been playing moms in two family series, neither seen here. Rachel is about 40 now, and her days as a leading lady are behind her, except in family sitcoms. There are other good ones. I love Yvonne Strahovski on, "Chuck". Sorry: I seem to be stuck on Aussie actresses tonight. (Yvonne fakes a US accent on, "Chuck.")

This is supposed to be about The Marine 2, so I'll close. But it is a pretty good film, of its type. And I like the Berettas.

As a serious film, it isn't going to be in the same league with, "The Longest Day", "Band of Brothers", or, "Saving Private Ryan." But it doesn't pretend to be in that category.

The ony real gripe I have is that Lara wasn't in her bikini more often. But she looks good in a black cocktail dress, too. :)

I think I'll watch this again before I go to bed.

YouTube - The Marine 2 Trailer Premiere (There may be an ad before the trailer.)

Here's the trailer, the best of several. I also posted it just now on Page One, but those who have been there might not see it if I don't put it here, too. That's Lara Cox with the blonde hair, talking to the star as the trailer opens. Lara is good at faking a US accent.

Look at the scenery near the resort. Pretty! Filmed off the Thai coast.

Ted DiBiase is indeed the son of the Million Dollar Man, and is currently using his father's old gimmick, right down to having Virgil come back.

Anyway, Ted actually is a hunter and a shooter. He mentioned training with the technical adviser with live rounds and being proud of getting hits at 500 meters with a rifle. He attributed his hunting experience and familiarity with guns for helping with the role.

Supposedly the Marine 2 is loosely based on actual events.

John Cena developed a working relationship with Robert Patrick on the set of the Marine 1, and it was back at last year's Summerslam I think it was, that he saw RP in the crowd with his son and stopped and made time to give the boy his hat. Cena actually is an okay guy. So is DiBiase, but he's stuck trying to find his gimmick and is a heel right now.

Very different sort of movie, which may be your point.

Actually, I think Jack Webb WAS a Marine, as was Lee Marvin?

Jack Webb wasn't in The Corps, he was in the Army/AAF, I believe. He made a damn fine DI in the movie, although DI's of that era didn't exactly just "yell" at the recruits!

Lee Marvin was in The Corps and was wounded in action at some little island named Iwo Jima. One of his buddies who saved him there was a Sergeant named Robert Keeshan...they stayed good friends the rest of their lives.

Robert Keeshan=Bob Keeshan=Captain Kangaroo.

GF-

Thanks! I don't follow wrestling, but why is DiBiase using that name if he is Lee Majors's son? By Farrah Fawcett? I didn't realize that they had kids. Majors played the Six Million Dollar Man on TV. Is there a wrestler also using that name?

I'm sorry that DiBiase is having trouble finding himself or his career, but that doesn't seem to warrant being a heel.

I thought that Lara was looking like she was just tolerating him in a publicity photo, but she told an Australian entertainment writer that she did enjoy working on the set, and Lara Cox is a very nice, compassionate woman. She got along great with the cast on The Lost World, and took a year from her career to nurse her close friend and Heartbreak High co-star, Callan Mulvey, after he had a bad auto accident.

Many actors are heels, so maybe she just rode it out while working with him. Or, maybe Ted isn't a heel around cute blondes. :D

You're right about Lee Marvin, he was shot in the buttocks. Wrong about Capt. Kangaroo, that's a myth that he saved Lee Marvin. Also a myth that Mr. Rogers and Bob Denver were snipers.

Unless his mom had an affair with Lee Majors, to the best of my knowledge the original Million Dollar Man Ted Sr is Ted Jr's tad. His half brother (wrestlers often change wives) is also coming up in the WWE and is in FCW now (their developmental league).

Being a heel isn't a bad thing in wrestling. Some guys are heels (villains), some are babyfaces, other are tweeners. Stone Cold Steve Austin started as a heel and did good work as one, before he became an anti hero. Ted Jr. is okay in the ring, but hasn't found his niche yet. His old man was just inducted into the hall of fame and passed on the gimmick.

Yeah, I know, I need to get out more.

Anyway, by all accounts he's a decent and average guy in person, likes guns, hunting, and doesn't party to excess on the road.

Texas Star, Didn't mean to tear up your thread. Just wasn't too impressed with the first one(The Marine). Just watched the trailer you posted, It does look better than the first. I will likely watch it on cable when it gets there. I don't go to movies much anymore or the video store but thats a whole different subject.$$
