MP 15 for hunting

I recently bought a MP15 to use hunting hogs. I currently use a 45/70 lever action for daytime hunting. It is awesome, but not the best thing to use while stalking in thick brush or at night. For the thick brush I need something that I can just point with multiple follow up shots. At night I need the same thing with something attached to the rifle that lights up at least a hundred yards, preferably more. I also need for the rifle to be quiet and not rattle. Oh, almost forgot. I am an old fart and either a scope or a lazer is about the only thing I can use these days. My eyes ain't to good. I know that is a lot to ask for, but I just need to take one thing at a time. I have a cantilevered {A R Stoner } mount with integrated rings coming for scope mounting. One more thing, I am a farmer {cattle}. I hate coyotes. This gun will be used for that too with fragmenting bullets for no recochet {sp}. I had a suggestion to use the fuzzy side of velcro and put a strip of of it on the buttstock slide to quieten the rattle that comes from there.
Sorry for the long post but I wanted ya'll to understand what I want from the rifle. question #1: Are those illuminating devices that can be focused to give either a lazer or floodlight any good? Question number two: If I have to add two devices to get this done, what would I use and where/how to mount it? I plan on cutting the front sight down as my eyes just aren't good enough to use iron sights. Thanking you in advance.

That's a tough one. The great thing about hogs is that you can get close to them (100 yards and closer), but they are nocternal and come out at night. Most setups I have seen involve some kind of NVG which can get expensive. You could use a red flashlight set up with an optic like EOTech just to give you a reference and that would work well. Do some research and see what your options are.

I have done some research. Found a device called a designator that can be focused between a lazer and a flood. Just don't know if they are any good or not., priced less than 200.00. Bass pro advertises a flood that will do 250 yards and puts out 600 lumens . Mounts atop the scope. Both put out a green light which is supposed to be the best. I have moderate experience hunting hogs during daylight hours, but none night hunting. This past hunting season a hunter on a Georgia WMA was attacked by a large boar. It chased him for some time and took multipule shots from a .41 mag pistol without putting the hog down for good. He even stabbed it with minimal results. I can't run very fast any more so am counting on a thirty round mag of Remingtons "Hog Hammer" to do the deed should the occasion arise. It's a completely different deal when hunting something that can and will on occasion fight back. Hogs are a super tough animal to kill when they get above 150 lbs.Kinda gets yer heart to pumpin a little ya know?

Electrical tape on the buffer tube works to eliminate play when the but stock is mounted. I've also heard a piece of the fuzzy 1/2 of Velcro tape does the job too. Otherwise an aftermarket but stock with a friction lock will do.

rattleing buttstock

Cypher, I did try your suggestion. In this case did not work. The culprit seems to be that the bore on the buttstock is much larger than the diameter of the buffer tube allowing it to move back and forth. I think the holes in the buffer tube spine are somewhat over sized compared to the plunger diameter. In all, a very poor fit. Course most will not be hunting deer and hogs with this rifle. I think a couple narrow strips of the fuzzy velcro will be the fix. Can't aford a new buttstock right now. Gotta wait until I finish enough mods to the rifle to make it huntable. Here in Georgia some of the state owned WMAs have special spring and summer hog seasons. Thank you for the tip.

Ok, so your rattle is the stock itself, not just the lever. The velcro trick should fix you up then.

I use mine on hogs, but it usually isn't "hunting" as it is eradication. We shoot them over a feeder... they aren't bothered by noise when they are eating all of the corn. The sound of a jeep gets them moving though!

Did the velcro . Very tight fit, but the buttstock is still removable although it will take some effort. I have no reason to collapse the buttstock anyway. Quiet as a church mouse when ya shake it now.
