I was looking to see what peoples opinions on the Compact polymer vs the metal guns.

I currently have the 3.6 polymer and love it as a CCW.

I see they just came out with a metal version. When I looked at the weight of the two; 25.9 poly vs 26 for the metal.

The weight is pretty much a wash.

What is the real advantage of the metal? I like the idea of a metal frame if it has more weight but it doesnt.

Thanks in advance

There are metal guns and there are polymer guns. Taking a polymer gun and making an aluminum frame doesn’t change anything to me. Especially when the metal is some battleship grey.

I really like my M&P’s and have several. I don’t ever see owning a metal version.

Having shot full size polymer and aluminum frame M&Ps back-to-back, I doubt that there is any functional difference to the aluminum frame besides maybe being less likely to break from abuse/drops or blow open if you have a case rupture. However, aluminum frames are typically no more resistant to high-round count fatigue related failure, and possibly less so.

If one likes the 'feel' of the aluminum frame, I'm not going to tell them that they're wrong, because that's difficult to quantify.

The steel frame of the new Spec Series V makes a difference, but that's due to an extra 10.25 oz of frame weight over a polymer frame.

I see no worth while difference in the alloy frame over the polymer frame except PRICE. Your choice so spend your money wisely .
Now the steel frame might be worth while for a full size competition pistol but then there are other handguns to consider with better stock triggers and better with better accuracy .

My wife and I have a early m&p 4.25 40sw and 4.25 core . Wife has an early m&p9c , I also have a 2.0 5" pc ported 40 thats a real sweet shooter and a m&p 4" compact 9mm with thumb safety and optic but thats still a practice pistol with I decide to carry a 9mm with optic .
