Here's the 3 papers I threw the first 20 rounds at yesterday. The smithy bore sighted it after putting the Vortex 1x8x24 Strike Eagle on it. I went with the AR-BDC3 RETICLE because of the reticle BDC Technique for my Hornaday M193 55 grain factory loads. Have any of you used Hornaday's ballistic calculator? I am going to estimate the OTB velocity to be 3100 (probably less). It being a SW MP Sport. So I'm figuring dropping the POI down 4" at 100 and that should bring it down to 2" at 50yd and dead on at 200yd. The top 2 are 50yd and bottom 100yd with 10 rounds.

I use a dead on at 50 yards which will let you reach out to 300 or so holding dead on. I wouldn't do a lot of adjusting until I had a few more rounds through a new barrel and a cleaning . I use 5 round groups that hold together pretty tight before making adjustments . I also try more than one brand of ammunition, some rifles have a definite preference that shows up in group size . Good luck and have fun!

I'll go for that. Because of Ammo so high priced I have bought 20 rd boxes. Lets see I got 2 boxes of Remington 5.56 55gr M193, Hornaday 62gr, some Hornaday .223 55gr. The barrel you know is a 1in9 twist, so there is no reason to go higher then 62gr. But you never know it may throw 75gr better ...

If you load, a 68-72 gr bullet will give you some nice tight groups. Your rate of twist is probably 1/8 or 1/9 if newer and light bullets like 55 gr prefer a slower twist like 1/10. I know, with the cost of ammo these days it doesn't make a lot of sense to be tuning a $600 rifle with high end match grade ammo but I've seen this with my own eyes on the exact same rifle. To be honest most people would shoot a lot better with an AR if the barrels were 1/10 because most people use 55 gr ammo in those.

My plea to the AR makers. Stop building rifles with 1/7 and 1/8 twist barrels. Nobody shoots 82 gr bullets except the match shooters. Get a clue.

I have the same problem with a Ruger Mini 1/9. I'm not buying 68 gr match bullets to make it shoot 2 MOA. I load 62's and 3 MOA is all I need it to do. It's a defensive carbine and 3 MOA will get the job done. I suspect that's what most people will feel comfortable with.

Thanks for your input. My twist is 1/9, so I am beginning with 55 gr M-193 bullets. I will slowly progress up to 68 gr or higher just to see if it will throw them out there in decent groups. The above targets are the first 20 rds out of it. And with the price of ammo I am only buying 20 rds at a time. My next 20 will be 62 gr M-193. Also for now I am sticking with Hornaday Frontiers. But for my end result all I want to hit is a silhouette center mass down range.:D
