I want to pick a few small items to include in the range bag I got my best friend for Christmas. One of the items that comes to mind is a gunsmithing multi tool. It doesn't need to be the be all, end all gunsmithing tool kit, just something that will get the job done at the range, be reasonably durable, and not take up too much room in the bag.

I was looking at the Weaver fold out model. I can pick one up locally for less than ordering and paying shipping.

Weaver GET Gunsmith Everyday Fold-Out Optics Multi Tool 849729. Weaver Multi-Tools.

Any other good options out there?

I can also get this one locally. It runs a good bit more locally than online.

There are some really nice MT's out there, especially if you get one geared directly to be used as an armorers tool. And if it's going to just be a range bag tool, then size won't be an issue, but the one that I use the most and carry almost everyday for nearly two years now is the Leatherman Juice S2. It's about as big as I think I would go for something that is pocket carried every day, but it sure gets a lot of work. Love having it and I have extras for future use as well. They run about $50. Good luck.

I have a multi tool in my Range Bag but seldom use it because I find it awkward and cumbersome. In fact the only tool I use on it on rare occasion is an Allen Key. You would be better off buying him a starter Brownell's handle and bit set and he can add to it if he wants. At least the Brownell's bits are hollow ground and proper for working on guns where as the MT's have generic bits and could do more damage than good. They starter sets are not too much and they even have a model that the bits fit into the handle.

I also have a Leatherman tool in each car but have chosen over the years to assemble a real tool kit for each vehicle - even my MC.

I understand this is just a "bag filler" and not the main gift but for little money you can still find a useful quality tool. You could even put some brushes, cleaning solvent, oil, etc. You can never have too many cleaning supplies..... :)

I don't use any multi-tools at the range because the flat blade screwdrivers aren't hollow ground (normally). The tool I use the most is the smaller hollow ground screwdriver bit set. Adjusting sights, tightening side plate screws, etc. All things I don't want to mar the screw slot on. You can get some decent sets for around $20. I have a Chapman set I have used for many year. Not nearly as nice as the set I use at home (Brownells Magna-tip set).
