Hi folks. As I was cleaning and reorganizing my Boolit Room, I came across a brand new Hornady Seating Die still in the package. I vaguely remember getting it in an order but never using it because I don't have a 6.5 PRC. I probably ordered the wrong die for my 6.5 Creedmoor. I was thinking about it today and just as a sort of mental workout, I was trying to decide if I could use that die on the Creedmoor ammo. Same bullet, maybe change the stem. I'm going up to my reloading supplier this week so I may be able to trade it off to him, but I was just curious. I looked at the SAAMI drawings for the PRC and the Creedmoor and they are darn close. Both use the .264 bullet but I see that the neck on the PRC is .297 diam but the CM has a .295 neck. Is the brass thicker on the PRC? If the bullet is the same diam., how does the neck get .002" bigger? The shoulder is 30 deg on both but the neck is .0135" longer on the CM. So, again the question is can I use the 6.5 PRC seating die on a 6.5 CM? Thanks for your patience

Many people use one similar die for seating to depth and the factory seating die as a crimp die! This prevents bulged shoulders on cartridges with thin neck walls and shoulders. (38-40 & 44-40 come to mind first thing, but 22-250 and similar have been known to buckle with cannelure bullets)

An old friend, now passed on seated 17 Remington, 17 Bee, 17 Ackley Hornet and 17 Hornaday Hornet with a 17 Ackley die. He didn't crimp as he preferred Contenders. 17's and left hand bolt rifles don't come around often. He may also have shot the 17 Mach.
