My cable package includes Music Choice which includes a nice selection of music. My favorite choice is the Solid Gold Oldies channel. Naturally they do still frame ads and some music trivia while the music plays. I can't help but read.
The ads are about medical equipment, colostomy, wheelchairs, etc, etc. If that isn't enough, one of their favorite trivia facts is "Do you know that Buddy Holly, or Elvis, or Phil Everly died on such and such date?" I may have to start listening to RAP.
The oldies station is depressing.

The oldies station is depressing.

They probably assume that only oldies like oldies. I'm not particularly ancient, but have music dating to the 15th Century.

What ticks me off is that the medical companies assume this also applies to those watching the news on TV. The ads are all about pills, cancer treatment, etc. The news is usually depressing enough without those ads.

Yes the MC SG Oldies ain't bad for some quick fix
background music channel 930 here on Wa. State Comcast.
Lately I'v been goin' back in time much further than that.
I really like the whole flapper era prohibition & Depression
stuff from the 20's & 30's, even the teens.
especially the lady's such as Annette Hanshaw, Ruth Etting,
Marion Harris, Helen Kane, the Bosewell Sisters, & the like.
I'v got some neat "Freeware" that will download & convert
Youtube Videos To Mp3 format, over 90 gig's worth on my
Ipod, I love goin back i time with the oldies* :)

I prefer the Singers & Swing channel lately. 50's-60's classic rock seems to be everywhere these days. OTA radio, satellite, Pandora. Grew up with it, wasn't crazy about most of it the first time around.

I don't listen to much music but I like the golden oldies mostly when I do. I like alot of the country music but would go with golden oldies if I had to choose just one.

Who says you have to watch? That's the reason I like the cable music channels - no commercials to listen to. I have the cable box audio output connected to the stereo. I can go to the channel I want and not even turn on the TV - I just listen to the music on the big speakers instead of the little ones on the TV. I've had the Smooth Jazz channel on all day - it's been one of those "stay inside on a rainy day, chill out and read a book" kind of days. Tomorrow it'll probably be the Classical Masterpiece channel. Just depends on my mood.
