The other day The weather was awful. You know, one of those gray, cold, drizzly days that is so awful that it is oppressive. I got to feeling down, melancholy, bordering on depression.
I decided to look around for some music to cheer me up. Music has always had a powerful effect on me. On this day I needed some thing to lift me up and cheer me up and get me back to my old happy-go-lucky self.
I thought of Eva Cassidy. I know lots of y'all have heard her sing and know what a good singer she was. Perfect pitch, Unbelievable range (lots of singers have to get loud and holler to hit the high notes but she gets up there softly and sweetly.) She covers lots of songs and artists. She adds her own phrasing which, in most cases improves the song.
I have a couple of her CDs and She got me up and out of my funk and feelin' good again. The sweetness and purity of her voice is a powerful thing. And I chose this song to demonstrate what I'm talking about. I chose a version that has the lyrics in print for this because they are very powerful and very moving. I will admit that I never really knew all of them until I came across this.
