Muzzle Brake/Compensator

I've seen them advertized in various forms,sizes and specs. While I'm not bothered by the recoil I would like to lessen/dampen the recoil for quicker second shot aquisition. Can anyone recommend a starting point?

Also if you are not worried about side blast and flash signature, I would do some research into what the top 3-gun competitors are using.

Another comp that I have been reading some positive things about is the Z Comp.

Last night I ordered

two of the Smith Enterprise 5.56mm DC Muzzle Brakes. They aren't the best, but I did read some good stuff about them. My son and I asre just getting our feet wet with these new guns and are taking it slow and inexpensive route right now. If either one for us likes a $30 tube or open red dot then we'll probably spend more on a better one. We definitely want to improve our capabilities but be "frugal" about it. I'm having to buy "stuff" for two guns at a time! I certainly don't mind that, but I just don't want to add great value to my "junk/extras box".

I'm about to go in the other direction and remove my Sport's flash hider and installing a thread protector instead.

I'm mainly doing this to reduce noise at the shooting bench area. And maybe a side benefit is that what little increase in muzzle jump I get will force me to slow down on my followup shots...after all, my paper target isn't going anywhere.

I have run the flash hider, then I ran a muzzle brake in between times I ran a thread protector. Both the muzzle brake and the flash hider made a lot of noise and did not make any difference on the perceived recoil. I have gone back to the thread protector, less noise. Any muzzle attachement will change your bullets trajectory, I cannot give you the reasons why I just know I have seen it on targets. The best thing I have seen for accurate follow up shots has been either changing my buffer and spring combination or an adjustable gas block. With the barrel thread protector I get more consistancy in my shots because I dont have gas pressures or whatever it is changing my bullets flight characteristics.

There are definitly some good videos and comparisons on the internet, I went with an AAC Breakout, as it provides flash supression, significantly reduces muzzle flip and makes installation of an AAC supressor a snap. I get fast follow up shots, side concussion is fairly substantial...the guy next to you at the range may not be too happy lol...but it gets the job done and the price was competitive.
