My experience with Magpul PTS sights from Ebay

All too common. I got mine for around $80. What I don't understand is why they make them so crappy considering it is still a live, albeit paintball shooting, application.

My Magpul PTS experience went like this : 15 bucks off Ebay, opened the box, crappy plastic, rear sights aperture had a lot of left /right free play, back in the box to return for refund, bought the real Magpul Gen 2's from Midway USA.

I wouldn't spend 50% of a known quality item for a cheap knock off clone! That is what you would be doing if you buy the clones twice at $20! That doesn't make sense to me. I was willing to try it for 25% of the cost. If I get the real deal, I can easily sell them on ebay and get just about all of my money back if I decide I don't need them or want them anymore.

Not sure what anyone expects out of PTS. It's made in China, totally different plastic than Magpul polymer and is known to be a cheap alternative.

Pay for something that is 99% for looks? Then why even get BUIS? I actually shoot with mine and enjoy using sights. My kid likes the red dot. I turn it off and just sight through it. That's why I got something that I knew would work.

If you got some for looks, then it doesn't matter how much you pay. You paid too much. If they are there to be functional, then get something you KNOW is made to be functional.

The PTS are marked PTS on them according to Magpul. I emailed them about the fakes out there, have the email somplace if interested. The ones that come in a boxed set are chinese knockoffs some work some dont. Magpul doesn't sell boxed set of either of their MBUS. The real PTS don't usualy have a problem.

Since the official Magpul PTS website doesn't list any PTS sights for sale (they link to the parent website full price units), please let us know where "real" Magpul PTS sights can be purchased....

Perhaps in the past they were sold, I don't think that is the case anymore.

Mine work fine? I'd rather spend $20 then $80 on something that is 99% for looks... And if they don't work I would get another $20 pair

Is that the "buy cheep pay twice" thing I see as someone's tagline coming to fruition?

Sort of. I agree my sights are 90% looks. I've never had to use them. I'd prefer to spend even the $40 instead of the $80 and use the extra on a better red dot.

The better the red dot, the lower the chance of using your backups.

What if you wanted to set your sights to shoot a different yardage than your red dot is set for? Would you still trust a cheap Chinese copy made for a toy Airsoft gun?

I wouldn't do something as stupid as that. Set your sights up, learn holdover, drive on.

I have not had any failing on my "PTS" and my "no name" Magpul style sights. When they were run on an AEG, a GBB and now a .22. When I've zeroed them they have worked.

I DID have issues with the aperture flap falling down when the sights were flipped up, but I removed the small aperture and only ran the big ones.

This is a .22. It isn't a combat rifle. You don't need combat grade sights on it. I was a hell of a lot harder on my Airsoft gear than i have ever been with my 15-22......

And that speaks to the point. Why pay for something at all that doesn't work as advertised or expected. I don't shoot with the large aperture on any of my ARs so this would have been a a deal breaker and a replacement issue for me and many others.

I have both, a set of the knockoffs and a set that came on my MOE. While the real MBUS sites are certainly better, the knockoffs that I have are very good for $20 and I do use them quite a bit.

There is a guy how sells them on EBay who mounts them and tests them out before selling, so you should get a decent set from him.

Most people don't use them anyway, so why drop $80 for 22lr when they will spend most of their time down. Heck, I see a lot of guys with their scope mounted over it so it's impossible for it to even flip up!
