My first AR15 and mods (H&K inspired)

Took me over 40 years to get an AR and now this is addicting! LOL. I have really enjoyed making it my own. I love the H&K MR556, but I cannot justify the price or leg work to transfer it here and neuter it. This is the M&P 15 Sport II. I changed the front rail with an aluminum 2-piece system off Amazon. Really nice actually. The grip is Bravo company and similar to the H&K. New mil-spec buffer from Primary Arms. Magpul style fore-grip. That H&K buttstock was $50 from airsoftmegastore.com and compared to the DSA AR15 one from Primary Arms, they are no different. Quite nice actually! (It is $210 from HKParts) Built strong and looks great. The only issue is that it is not really mil-spec. It might be close but it was a pain in the arse to slide on. No worries, it needs to be pinned anyway. I pinned the adjustment knob instead of the buffer in 2 places and it is not moving at all. Un-pinned I can barely get it to move once I squeezed it on. I used red and white crayon to enhance the lettering. And of course a pre-ban 30 round mag since I live in the communist state of MA.

You are probably right, but I don't really think the Sport needs a heavy buffer unless he is having cycling issues......which I sure hope he is not having. Is there really any other reason to put a heavy buffer in the Sport?

Thanks! I took a lot of heat over at Northeast Shooters for using an airsoft stock. The fact is a lot of them over there are morons. Loud-mouthed brats obsessed with the Govt. stealing their guns and tin-foil galore. In any case, thanks! Yes, I live in MA so I have to pin the stock, which is why I don't mind the cheaper stock. It makes no difference since I have to pin it.

Well....most changes are cosmetic or added features to the rifle. A buffer swap is a performance issue....which he shouldn't need.

Hey, do what he wants. If a buffer swap makes him happy with a perfectly good performing rifle, knock his socks off.

you need a new buffer tube in MA. the compliant version has a heavy longer buffer tube and non-movable stock, not mil spec.

Ah, now that makes sense, forgot about the MA thing. Did the OP buy a regular Sport II and now has to convert it? If so, boy that sucks.

I don't believe the receiver extension is any longer on a MA compliant rifle... just that the stock is pinned at the longest setting, and the extension is not drilled for any other settings, so in order to shorten the stock length and re-pin it to be legal, he had to purchase another receiver extension with the holes drilled for additional length settings.

yes. the MA buffer tube is heavy and long with no notches for a stock. I bought a new mil spec buffer tube and buttstock. I pinned the actual lever and not the buffer tube. MA sucks.

NY is worse than MA here in NY we cannot have the deadly pistol grip, I can live with a pinned stock but hate the fact we have to remove the pistol grip and put on a stubby grip. with the stubby grip I find my self with tighter grip on the fore grip to pull the rifle into my shoulder.

It took me close to 40 years before I got a AR-15 and last month I picked up Sport II, while we can still purchase them here in NY.

HK doesn't actually neuter them....well yes, yes they do but that's because of their laws. Has to do with selling military rifles to civilians. That's a very simplified version but basically that's it.

As for quality, their stuff is top notch. There have been a few hiccups but they don't skim on quality and testing
