This is my first year handgun hunting and my first shot fired at a deer with my 681. I was also using my reloads, .357 mag w/ 158 gn. Hornady XTP bullet with 9 gn. of true blue powder 1.59 OAL. It was approx. a 35 yd. shot. She was on a dead run. The bullet passed completely through absolutely folded the deer. I've been deer hunting for almost 20 years and have killed more deer than I can remember, but this was one of the most rewarding hunts I have ever been on. I deff. do not feel under gunned with a .357.

Congrats! I've never shot a deer with a .357, but have harvested many with a .44mag. Once you go to handgun hunting, hunting with a rifle will never be the same again. Consider yourself hooked.:)

Thanks guys. @handgun hunter- I agree I really like having both hands free for crashing through brush and I love the extra challenge. My main reason for getting into hand guns is b/c I am left handed and right eye dominant. I struggle with long guns w/o a scope and I haven't trained myself to shoot right handed. With a handgun I can just move my head over and use my right eye.

Congratulations! I've taken several with wheel guns and it never gets old. A short barreled fixed sight revolver is definitely challenging and one you should be very proud of.

Lol no the quad is a few years old. It's my dad's and he keeps her pretty clean. Thank you bigmuddy, it's right on par with my first bow kill. I actually kind of prefer the fixed sights. I haven't shot many revolvers, but I can't imagine one shooting much nicer than this old 681 :-).

Congrats and good shooting! I have shot a couple of deer with 4" L Frame .357s. You are right, memorable indeed!

I'm still after a deer with a revolver this year. Been toting my 25-5 but may switch to my 24-3 for the late season.
