after buying and selling several revolvers, i finally got talked into getting a 1911. picked up a used smith-wesson with the adjustable sights.

initial impression using federal ball ammo available from wally world, not very good, 4-6 inch groups at 25 yards. i almost traded it in less than a week after getting it. talked to one of my buddies who is a big 1911 guy. let me use some of his handloads. results below (2 inch dot, 25 yards).

first picture shows 5 shots, with the first shot out. second pic is after next 5 shots, also first shot out. last pic is after 25 rounds. with 3 shots missing due to recoil anticipation. i guess i'll have to keep it and start reloading 45.

stick with it.

dry fire to improve.

4-6" group @ 25yds for a non match gun is acceptable to many manufactures however you have to take in many variables and slight movements or holds or something different than the previous shot will impact elsewhere.

another area is ammo and the lack of quality over quantity.

cqb45, that seems a bit generous for accuracy. the only revolver i ever had that shot 4-6 inches at best was the one and only taurus i ever got. sold it promptly thereafter. i may just have had a bad sample, but i'm not risking any more $ that way.

colcolt, mine is an sw1911 .45 with adjustable sights, sku 108284, i think. i am not as familiar with the different 1911 models, so i narrowed it down to the models with adjustable sights.
