Back around Christmas, I purchased the 9MM Shield to replace my old 4013TSW .40 to utilize it as my new CC gun. I couldn't be happier. To be honest with you all, with the exception of taking the wife shooting last fall, I hadn't shot a hand gun in several years and recently became involved again. I am now shooting more and enjoying it once again. I thought I would post this photo of the target after the first 50 rounds shot from my new Shield at 20 feet. I was more than pleased! This gun has good accuracy, and is so comfortable to shoot, and carry. And it ate up all three kinds of loads I put through it. Not a hitch feeding and had NO FTF issues. If anyone is considering an M&P Shield, I highly recommend it. :D

Thanks keithdog. I'm digesting all these reports as I trudge through the decision making process. With a friend who has the Shield and reports like yours, I'm edging ever so much closer to the purchase.

I bought the 40 shield loved it so much i bought the 9 too.I shoot mainly my own re-loads and never a problem, about 2000 rds on each now.

I'm sure if you decide to go with a Shield you'll be glad you did. But there are many fine choices out there for CC, so find what feels good to shoot and carry. Good luck buddy.

I'm considering the 9mm shield myself. I really like the idea of having a .40 cal as a ccw, but want to be able to enjoy shooting the gun as well. I've read stories about the .40 being a little hard to handle when shooting muliple rounds. Since I can't buy both calibers I was thinking about getting the 9mm and buying a barrel and some magazines for .40 cal. To use when carrying.

I read somewhere that u can't go from a 9 to a 40 but u can go from 40 to 9. Not sure if that's true, to me that doesn't make sense since the guns are the same size. Just something u may want to confirm first before purchasing

Thanks for the info I need to look into that. Might make the final decision on caliber for me.

I chose the .40, and couldn't be happier. Conceals great, and shoots like a dream. You can convert a 40 to a 9, but not the other way around. There is no conversion offered for the Shield though, like the ones available for the 40 FS, and C.

In the NRA Pistol matches that I participated in 30+ years ago, you shot 22 RF, Center Fire calibre of your choice, and 45 ACP in that order. Experienced pistol shooters handle all with success, but admittedly as you go up in size, accuracy goes down for all but the absolute best out there. :)

I think he was referring to barrel conversion

the post you quoted did not mean how well one can shoot after the other...it was stating that you can use a 9mm barrel and a magazine in a 40s&w shield and still have it function correctly, but you cannot use a 40 barrel and mag in the 9mm shield

The slides are different. At the back of the chamber opening where its notched for the load indicator, its wider on the 40. So the 40 won't fit the 9, but the 9 will fit the 40. There are people that use the 9 in the 40 and it works, but there is some side to side play at the rear. I'm no super gun guru, but personally I want everthing to fit like intended, and would only convert if there was a barrel specifically made to do so. Just my .2
