My dad bought me this old model Ruger Single Six in 1971. It was for my 14th birthday and I was already shooting his SS. We then found this Hunter rig at the flea market which he shortened to fit me. The holster was torn up exposing the metal insert so he made a new one utilizing the insert and the two chicago screws to reattach it. I wore this every chance I got outside plinking, fishing, whatever. Usually along with my single shot Ithaca Model 49 .22 that looked like a Winchester 92 carbine.

Mine was a used, three-screw Single Six...fixed sights, no magnum cylinder that I picked up in a pawn shop in Provo, Utah. Logged plenty of miles with it.

When our kids were ready to leave the nest, they each got to choose a handgun to take with them. My daughter chose my old Single Six. She still has it now, complete with my belt rig and an old Buck 118 Personal knife that I kept on the belt.

I still remember when I gave it to her as she was leaving for college twenty-three years ago. She looked at the gun and belt rig and exclaimed, "You mean I can have the knife, too??!!" You gotta love it.:D

I bought my first pistol the summer I turned 13. That’d be 1981.
Technically, I gave my Dad the money and he bought it for me but y’all know what I mean. I earned the money picking bell peppers and hauling hay with local farmers.
Ruger Super Single Six convertible 6.5” barrel.
I still have it, the leather Hunter holster and the homemade cartridge belt I put together so I could live out my Louis L’Amour fantasies.
My son has the belt rig. It no longer fits me, apparently leather shrinks.

My first gun has gone the way of the Dodo. I was never rich enough to afford all I wanted so I had to sell one to get another. The first handgun I bought and owned was a Ruger 22 Mark 1 that I bought when I was 14 and took home on the school bus. I do have it still simply because I loaned it to a friend 40 plus years ago and just got it back last year.

Ruger Super Single Six 5 1/2 bbl, both cylinders, with a Hunter holster and belt. Cost me $50.00 in 1970.....for the whole thing.

Belt still fits and is in original configuration.

I have harvested 2 whitetail does with the magnum cylinder in it. Both dropped right there...had NO idea I was there. Distance was almost 12 yards.....1 head shot and one neck shot.

I assume you mean handguns, but either way, yes, I still have the guns. The holsters I had initially have long since been replaced with better quality articles. In my case, the handgun is a Colt .38 Super Commander, purchased in 1969. It was a terrible gun. I finally saved enough money to buy a Barsto barrel for it, which helped greatly, and shot it to death. It cracked its frame, and I sent it to Colt, at their request, for “evaluation.” They decided the gun “could not be repaired,” offered a “discount” on a different gun (no .38 Super Commanders available at that time) that basically amounted to no discount at all, and told me they would not return my gun. :o I sent them back a letter offering to pay them for their evaluation and return freight cost for my gun, declining their discount offer. Pretty soon I received another letter saying they would not return my gun and it would be destroyed. I sent them back a more stern letter telling them I wanted my gun back and if they didn’t send it they would be getting a letter from my friendly lawyer. (I’m sure they were scared to death! :D) They sent the gun back, along with a bill for around $70!! I paid their crummy bill and had the Commander professionally repaired elsewhere. Forty-some years later, I still shoot it now and then and it has been trouble free since the repair. That one was/is my first handgun, and I’m pleased to still own it.

Mercifully, I’ve had considerably less trouble with S&Ws. :D

As noted in the previous post, "I assume you mean handguns". I certainly do have my first two rifles, though, an F.W. Heym I inherited from my dad, a single shot, bolt action .22LR, and a Remington Model 788 in .308 Winchester.

I also have one of my two first handguns, a CZ Duo in .25 ACP, also "inherited".

I blew up my first revolver, a Model 19, long story, but I still have my second revolver, a 2" Model 10.

Way too many holsters to even think about.

Everyone likes pictures.

Not my first, which was an Iver Johnson Trailsman 66 that went back to the factory twice for timing issues they didn't resolve. My dad pushed me hard into the IJ because he had one when he was a kid. Third strike, he let me trade it for a used Ruger Single Six 5.5 inch .22LR only. This was about 1959 and yes, I still have it and the Hunter holster I bought for it.

Just after college I joined a pistol team and used an old High Standard HD-Military that I bought for $40. Worked fine, but I wanted better so I bought a S&W Model 41. Worked awesome.

Fast forward, marriage, kids, demanding job and I stopped shooting bullseye - just no time.

By then I still DID have time to deer hunt so I traded the 41 for a Blackhawk .45 Colt. Still have the BH and it has taken many deer.

Learned a lot in that time period. Now I collect old S&Ws. What I learned was never sell one. Oh but to have the 41 back again.

First firearm was a Marlin .22 and my parents did something with it while I was gone in the Army.

First handgun is a Model 10, 4 inch, SB, purchased in 84 and I still have it.

First holster was an Assault Systems nylon shoulder rig and it is in a storage tote somewhere so no pic.

My first gun that I bought (had loaners before) I bought in 1964. A Winchester Model 250, an inexpensive lever action. I still have it and it's reasonably accurate and lightweight.

My first cartridge handgun was a Colt Frontier Scout .22 Magnum bought used with a Hunter belt and holster and 2 bricks of .22 Special ammo for $65 in 1973. I later picked up a .22LR cylinder. My younger son has it now.
