Was out and about yesterday, and came across this barely shot Sport II at a buddy's house. He bought it a few years back, fired maybe 300 rounds, and moved on to a custom build. I paid $450 for it as it sits.

I've got a Colt and a CMMG version, but this is the first M&P15.

I'll go through our discard parts box to see what furniture and optics I have for it. I think my son has some EOTECH in there that I'll try.

This should keep me busy for a day or two...

Well, I've begun the journey to make it mine by customizing it. I removed the front sling mount and added a QD to the handguard, swapped in the ERGO 2 AR grip, and the Magpul B.A.D. lever. I've also added a ZBULAR ligh with green laser to the handguard, which necessitated removal of the front sling mount.

I've got a VISM extended M-Lok handguard and convertible 1/2 point sling coming.

After taking it to the range (before any customizing, I decided I need a bipod. Any suggestion on a bayonet mounted bipod?

New handguard came in today. Very easy to install, and secures with 6 screws. I won't be adding the luggage mount bipod...and will go a different direction with the light/laser combo.

I'm thinking I like the Sig Sauer ROMEO5 red dot sight. I'm going to go up to Cabela's and see if they'll let me handle one prior to making the purchase.

Have fun customizing your new carbine but yeah, get rid of that awful light/laser monstrosity! Looking good so far. Sig Romeo is a decent choice for a RDS. See if you can find the combo (w/magnifier) on sale. Keep an eye on Palmetto State Armory site for sales.

I changed the buffer on mine to an H2 (as evidently M&P15 is over-gassed).

For some reason I can't edit my previous post....

Anyway, here's a link to PSA. They have the Sig Romeo GEN II/Juliet 3 Micro Combo on sale.

Just a moment...

If you're on a budget check out Atibal Optics, AT3 Tactical and Primary Arms. All good sources!

Ok...added the Romeo and Juliet, got rid of the light/laser, added a MAGPUL front palm rest and a 1000 lumen Streamlight with remote switch.

I still want a bipod, and will laser etched the dust cover with my business logo and Psalms 23. At that point, I'll be done.

I also picked up a stripped lower from a buddy today so I can start building my own. Paid $25 for the lower. I'll likely go as close to match quality as i can afford on the build

That reminds me...I've got a raw lower (no holes) for an AK build in my box that i forgot about. I've also got the wood furniture for one, too.

Looking better but you'll never be 'Done'.....lol

You do need to get the RDS off the rail and onto the upper. Your magnifier is way too far forward as well. Move the rear BUS as far back as it will go and move both optics back so they're both mounted on the upper receiver. It's just not good practice to mount anything optic related on rail forward of the upper receiver.

You don't need to go crazy on a bipod. A Harris style (or knock-off) will suffice. Magpul and MDT make good solid lightweight bipods at an affordable price point ($100 +/-). Easy adjustment/ deployment and pan and tilt are always nice options to have on a bipod. You just need to decide on how much you want to spend and how it's going to mount to your carbine. There are several mounting options available.

Here's a pic of my GG&G Bipod

GET A SLING!! :D

I moved the RDS to the receiver after reversing the mount on the device. It was the only way it would fit.

I'll post pics once it get a chance.

I believe I've got it the way i want it now. Put the new dust cover on it this afternoon.

Ive put about 700 rounds through it since I got it, and am greatly enjoying it. I've been shooting with a buddy of mine who spent about 6 years in the sandbox. He helped me by spotting while I dialed in the optics at the range. His EOTECH optics are much better than mine, but we're both happy with what I've got for the money I have invested in it

Time to put some time into building the .308 Savage Axis I picked up a couple weeks back. I spent much of the day lapping the bolt in. I'm just waiting on the taller scope rings to come in for the new Leupold scope
