So, picked this up in some weeks ago and today my permit arrived (if you wanna know about Swedish gun laws let me know). I'll let the pic speak for itself:

The only thing missing is the factory manual.

I've purchased some WC moon clips and I have a Nill SW025 grip on order (because the original ones do not fit me at all). I'm also going to have a holster made (anyone else think finding a holster for a 6" N-frame is difficult?)

That looks like the 6.5" barrel, so make sure you measure the barrel length before you have a holster made for it. Only the very last of the Mod. 25-2 production were shipped with a 6" barrel, the vast majority came standard with the 6.5". Also, if you can get the .45 Auto Rim ammo, they are a delight to shoot in the Mod. 25 and you don't need the half/full moon clips, however, you should still get the clips to shoot .45 acp. The Mod. 25 is one of my all time favorite revolvers and I have suspect you will enjoy it.

Good luck,
Steve

That's an excellent pick for your first Smith and a fine example you procured.

Have fun, be safe.

Steve, the serial number is 3795XX, which I believe dates it to around '75/'76 (don't know when they seized production). But yeah, I'll double-check before ordering the holster.

Though both I and the seller forgot (twice) he actually has about 300 Auto Rim cases that comes with the revolver, I just need to remind him to send them to me (or rather; remind myself to remind him...)

however, you should still get the clips to shoot .45 acp.
Yup, clips are already here waiting to be used. ;)

First shot I fired with it (Magtech 230 gr FMC (45A)) hit the small bore bullseye at 25 meters (27 yards and some change), so I'm very happy with it!

Nice gun.

A 6 1/2" 25 will fit in a 6" holster. The extra length of the 25 came from the much shorter 45acp cylinder and the guns have approximately the same overall length as a 6" N frame

Nice gun, it won't stop a charging moose but it will make nice big holes in paper targets

The serial should have a letter N prefix.

It is a 6.5" barrel. I have one made in 1980 and it still has the 6.5 despite the change to 6" for all guns in 1978. Must have had plenty of barrels to use up on this model.

Correct, it does.

You are correct again, I just measured it and it is indeed 6.5", though it feels shorter (a pleasant "problem" to have ;) :D).

When I first looked at this post I thought I had been robbed. You will soon learn to love your Model 25.
I have 2 and they are the best shooting S.& W's
that I have.
Congratulations on a great gun!

Hehe, yeah that is a good looking revolver you have there - your's look mint as far as I can tell, very nice! Were the half moon clips included with the revolver from the factory?

Great first choice. In my opinion the best all around gun S&W ever made. Shoot it and be amazed at how well it shoots and how easily it makes you look good.

I have had one since 1974 or 75. .45 ACP works either with or without clips. When I first got it I had a bunch of .45 ACP hardball. Shot 1,000s of rounds thru it without the clips. Could mostly pick the empties out with my fingers. Every once in awhile one would stick and I would poke it out with a pencil. It was easier then fooling with the clips. I have a 3# coffee can full of clips I have acquired over the years. I guess if I ever got into any kind of timed competition or carried the gun for defense I would use clips. About 1980 or 81 I got a bunch of .45 Auto Rim brass. Have used it in the Model 25 almost exclusively since. It is a fine revolver, I think you will enjoy it.

They are beautiful, fine shooting guns. Certainly one of my all-time favorites....
