This is my first post since becoming a member. I have to say that it's nice to have a resource like this to be able to share concerns and get ideas from folks from around the globe. Thanks to the admins for maintaining such a great site!

I work for a communications company where we regularly install dvr recording systems and cameras in school buses around the state.

I found this dvr lock box and thought that it would make an affordable option for my home as well as a place to store my pistol and ammo safely in my car. The safe in my car has a spot for my pistol as well as a place to hold a box of ammo if needed. It's made with heavy gauge steel with slide out tray for easy access to the bang maker. The great thing is that I can mount it vertically or horizontily with just a foam change.

Thanks guys! On the lookout for more boxes. Got another this week to make for a friend of mine.

If you have something like this at home that can be found my an intruder. Please bolt it down so that they can't just pick the box up and walk out with it. You would be surprised how many times this has happened to people around here.

What gauge is the steel? I ask since I can see some pry open points on the top of it.

It is bolted down in the house and in the car. Not sure on the gauge of the steel. It's pretty heavy without the gun or the tray in it. After working in the mobile electronics field for almost 20 years, I've come to realize that if someone has enough time, they will probably get whatever they want. The best that you can do sometimes is slow them down. The safe in the car will be replaced shortly with a speed vault. :~)

@bfayer - they are used from dvr's that we remove. Most places trash them when we perform the installs so I "recycle" them.

"Most places trash them" At what kind of places should I be dumpster diving for one of these?

Thanks!
