I got this gun over 10 years ago for a great price because it binded up shooting DA. I had it fixed for $100, I think. The couple I bought it from said a relative carried it as an Indian Reservation LEO here in northern CA then again had it with him at the San Carlos Reservation in AZ where he also worked. Probably the late 70s/early 80s. Reminds me of that TV show Dark Winds. The grips were butchered and shortened Cokes that Hugh Clark (Gatorbaiter) on this forum recheckered/refinished right before he passed away.

Shortening target grips by IIRC 3/8" can really reduce the "bulk" but you still have a good grip!

did it back in the 80s for Concealed carrying k/L frames; before discovering Spegel Boot grips.
They fit my average size hand perfectly coming right to the bottom of the grip frame. I found them and a bunch of other grips for $3 each at a gun shop. included was a set of Farrants, a John Hurst clipped K frame and many others.

Amazing condition. Not consistent with the amount of carrying and the expected quantity of shooting. Has the revolver itself been refinished?

My last personally owned and carried duty revolver was a 27-2 with the 3 1/2 bbl. We then went to mandatory carry 66s. I had only recently bought my 27-2 when this happened, so mine is mint.

As aesthetically ugly as it may seem, I eventually ended up with Rogers grips on mine. For DA shooting I liked/like them better than anything else I have ever used. So much so that all my DA revolvers wear them.

'Dark Winds' is extremely well done.

I just picked up the long lost older and longer cousin to your 27-2!

I got the impression he used it on the CA Reservation, but they specifically said he had it at San Carlos but it was not his primary service gun. I don't know if that's because he used something lighter to carry or if it's action was out of whack like when I got it and the gun set aside.

Sounds interesting but at this point the photos have disappeared.
I don't know what's going on there. Sometimes I see the pictures then next time they're gone.
And now the pictures are back! if someone locally had a 27-2 or older with an 8 3/8" barrel un nickel finish I would be very tempted to trade this 3 1/2 incher for it. But would probably not do it.
