A few months ago I sold my Desert Eagle to a young guy (cousin to my SIL) and have been having the money just hanging around in the gun safe. So earlier this week I was messing around on GB and looking at 45 ACP revolvers, specifically model 25s. And ran across a 25-2 that nobody had bid on and it didn't look bad and had a $600 starting bid, so I went and put in a bid on it. Long story short, I ended up winning the auction tonight for $735. It doesn't have the box or docs, but does come with 3 moonclips, the SAT and I guess some kind of mooning/demooning tool. I think that's a decent price, but not a screaming deal but I am happy with it. From the serial, it looks to be a 1980 gun. Since I got into shooting 1911s, I really needed a revolver that shoots the 45 Auto to go with them. Here are some pics I slurped off GB of the gun.

I guess seeing all Kenny's posts (rubiranch) on his new acquisitions got to me and I had to get yet another gun.

And this gun will be a shooter. I plan to give it a lot of range time as I have found that I do love the 45 Auto cartridge as it's easy to reload and fun to shoot.

Its awesome to get a good deal. Nice 25-2.

I've never shot a .45 ACP revolver.

I only have one gun with moon clips and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to sell it.

I would say you got a dang good deal. I acquired a 25-2 back in March. It is a pleasure to shoot. The tool with yours looks to be a de-mooner for removing spent brass from clips.

While waiting for yours to arrive, check youtube for making a mooning tool. I made one out of scrap materials in my work room in less than 30 minutes. Below are some pictures.

Thanks for mentioning that. I was wondering if that tool would work for both loading moon clips and unloading them but that mooning setup you made looks like it's cheap to build and should work well.

I've never shot a 45 Auto revolver either but it should be nice to shoot. I can't see it recoiling any harder than a 357 mag and it's only difference from all my model 27s and 28s is the fact of the moon clips. I do plan to pick up some more moon clips soon though.

You will love shooting 45 ACP out of that 25. I had one and loved shooting it. The recoil was minimal and I found it more pleasant to shoot than a 4” K frame 357.
The only thing I disliked was loading and unloading those clips.

I've never shot a gun that uses moon clips.

For some reason they look like a pain. Do they have to be used?

Yes, they have to be used. I bought one in the mid 80's. It came in a wood case. They were scarce back then, and it took 2 years to get. Kept it for several years, never fired it, and sold it. I have one coming next week. Took some safe money and bid on GB. I will see if I can lift a pic from GB

Well, yes...and no...

Standard pressure .45 ACP fired cases may fall out with the muzzle up. There are also plastic...er, "polymer" moon clips made by Rimz into which the ammo and brass can be moved in or out with finger pressure.

You got a pretty good deal on your 25-2 considering how the prices of any N-frames are skyrocketing these days. I love mine- picked it up a few years ago for just under $700. I think that the Model 25s are just behind the 29s, 27s, and 28s in N-frame popularity, and they are probably the most comfortable (and IMHO most accurate) to shoot. I use moonclips (2-rd, 3-rd, and 6-rd) for both my 25-2 and my 1917. That's a little de-mooning tool you have with the revolver. It won't help you load the clips, but a little flip of the wrist and it does a good job of removing spent cases from the clips. Enjoy!

muddoctor,
I bought a 25-2 many years ago and at this point in time I am not sure if I ever fired it.
I do enjoy shooting my 45ACP mountain gun with the full moon clips. It is easy to shoot and the demooning tool in your photo is what I use to remove the empty cases. It works well for me.
You will enjoy shooting your 25-2.

While I have no experience with”modern” .45acp revolvers, my 1937 Brazilian is a fun shooter. It normally wears period correct grips, but lately I’ll admit to using some Goodyears at the range. Moon clips are cheap. Buy a bunch and load them up ahead of time. Makes for a very enjoyable outing. If you don’t like the clips, you can shoot .45 Auto Rim in it too.
Good shootin’,
Doug

Here is the one I have coming. Presentation case, and the original cardboard shipping carton. I did not buy it for the grips, but I have better ones to change them out. No moon clips with it. Very light use

My 27-7 uses moon clips. Even though I never planned on shooting it when I saw the clips in the case I lost a of of interest in the gun.

I'm sure that sounds really dumb.

Wow Pete, I was actually watching that auction and I am glad to see that you were the winner. It's still a decent price you won it at for the whole package, including the shipper box too. And I love the smooth targets on it also. Not a whole bunch of figure in them but in great shape.

Thank you for posting about those Rimz polymer clips, Alan, I had seen folks posting about them in other threads and wanted to give them a try but couldn't remember the company name.

Kenny, the beauty of the 357 mag N frames that are cut for moon clips is that using the moon clips is entirely optional. I very seldom use the moon clips that came with my 627-5 Pro. The rimmed cartridge makes moon clip use an option as the extractor works on the rims just as well as the moon clips.
