Wow. I have about eight MIM guns that I have tuned for comp shooting and shot a ton. I have never had a problem.
My only gripe on the new guns is the terrible fit and finish they have resulting from dumping all the good gunsmiths who give a damn and replacing them with bozos who just throw the parts together.
It's possible the new gun parts are crap, I have not bought a new gun in a few years. I wouldn't blame MIM if the parts are bad, blame the fact they get them made by the lowest bidding subcontractor which means they have no quality control.

While I do apreciate the fit and finish of the earlier S&W's, especially the pre WW II versions, I have not experienced any problems with the new IL models. I shoot in practical pistol competitions using 625, 627, 327 and 610 all with the IL's and gave not experienced any problems with more than 10,000 rounds through each of these guns.
Annihilator, please (also) report this problem in the "lock failure" thread in the Lounge. Hopefully, S&W looks in occasionally and will see another lock failure.
While it was the chips that caused the lock to fail.....if the lock wasn't there it wouldn't have locked up the action.

Sorry that happened to you. It sucks that Safety Wesson makes crap like that these days.
I'm sure the MIM defenders, and lock apologists will be along shorty to convince you, how wrong you are, and that your 620 is just as good as any older S&W
