Greetings, All,
Today, I dug out my first S&W J-frame pistol, a blued M36 (no dash), flat-latch, with pinned barrel (cylinder not recessed), and original diamond grips. And, I was once again struck by how nice it is, though it's obviously seen quite a bit of use, even before I bought it from a friend many years ago. He asked me if I was interested, and once I saw this little pistol, I immediately asked what he wanted for it. He tossed out the number "$280.00, to which I responded, "Well, to me it's worth about $180.00", and he said, "OK, it's yours for $180.00"!
It's a wonderful shooter, in which I've only shot standard .38 SPL rounds, and no +P stuff, and I've not carried it too much over the years, "just because". The bluing, whilst not perfect, is still very nice, IMHO, and I dearly love this little gun. At one time in the past, I bought a new set of Bianchi Lightning grips for it, which protects the hammer, and gives a bit more of something to grab hold, and also tried a black Tyler T-grip adapter with it, which worked very well, and looks good, too.
The serial is: 362xxx, and it is marked inside the crane as "Mod. 36". Inside the crane, and also on the side of the frame are stamped "38777", and the frame has the number "8" on it, as well. I figure these are assembly numbers, or something like that. Oh, and the grips are numbered to the gun, which is kind of neat, at least to me.
Any info on my little 36 would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking it was made in the early to mid-1960's, but I could be wrong. I can post a photo, if that would help any. As always, many thanks for your help on this, and God Bless!
Every Good Wish,
Doc
