rearranging the den this afternoon for a new TV I took this off the old cabinet that housed the current TV. I made this display many years ago after my mom passed. she loved fishing, especially fly fishing for trout in AR where her family came from. she tied all the flies in the display and most of the rest of the stuff was in her tackle box. there is one reel I got from a retired Marine friend. in 97, when she went to the nursing home, I searched high and low for her fly rod. it was a three piece bamboo rod in a soft case. never found it. just wanted to share some old memories. lee

Lee....that is a great tribute for your Mom. What a great memory!

That's a very touching display, Lee, and a great way to keep some memories of your mom alive. Hand-tied flies are a type of art as far as I'm concerned...in the same category as vintage hand-carved decoys.

I like your display, and the thought behind it.

I love it, what precious memories are in that display.

My Mother didn't fish, but I have hundreds of photos my wife and girls fishing or just sitting in the old boat. They caught some really nice bass and the pictures are priceless to me.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

That is really nice and is something to be treasured and passed on. Quite a few years ago I gave my now departed son-in-law a bunch of old baits, reels and rods.
Several years later for Christmas he brought me a really nice glass covered shadow box with the baits on a green felt backing, each being named and dated as close as possible. One date I was for sure of, a Shakespeare Mouse in 1939. It was the first plug that I ever purchased. My grandson now has the shadow box and my great grandson who loves to fish will get it next.

I taught him to fish when he was still in HS and also took him hunting. We fished and hunted together for years. He ended up with some good bird dogs and we got in some fine bird hunting. I really miss him, he was a good one.

I think I also see a Zara Spook and a Hula Popper and the reel looks like an old Johnson. She knew her equipment. Great collection!

Good stuff, I got my dad's Hurd rod and wooden baits on the wall of my man cave

I have a fly reel that looks like that one. It is stamped "Pflueger Progress" and is made of brass and painted black. I don't remember if there was a date stamp on it. Also, the "bent" lure on the top right looks more like the outline of a Lazy Ike to me. The lure two to the left of it looks like a version of the River Runt and second lure from the left in the bottom row with the crappie finish is probably a Heddon Sonic.
